14:29:03 <XiXaQ> why are A/P accounts considered business only? As a private person, I get bills with must be payed in two weeks, a month, etc. Shouldn't I track those using an A/P account?
14:35:08 <warlord> no.
14:35:22 <warlord> well, you CAN, but only if you use the Invoice/Bill functions.
14:37:28 <warlord> but honestly, just date your transactions in the future. For example, when I get a bill in I set up my billpay and date my txn on the date the billpay will occur.
14:37:36 <warlord> even if it's a week or a month in advance.

14:38:36 <XiXaQ> warlord, huh?
14:39:16 <warlord> which part didn't you understand?
14:39:20 <XiXaQ> you mean you record that you have payed the bill in two weeks? :)
14:39:26 <warlord> Yes.
14:39:51 <XiXaQ> isn't that confusing?
14:39:58 <warlord> Why would it be?
14:40:20 <XiXaQ> then you don't use gnucash to actually track your incoming bills?
14:40:54 <warlord> not /incoming/ -- just paid. But I set my bills up to auto-pay as soon as I get them.
14:40:58 *** aart has joined #gnucash
14:41:30 <XiXaQ> oh. You mean using online banking?
14:41:40 <warlord> yes..
14:41:47 *** iamawake has joined #gnucash
14:41:57 <XiXaQ> oh, I see. You shouldn't enter a bill until you pay it?
14:42:11 *** sjc has quit IRC
14:42:55 <warlord> Unless you plan to use the Vendor Bill system, that's correct. but you can "pay" the bill on april 13th but set it to really pay on April 21st.. So you'd use 4/21 in GnUCash
14:43:09 *** chris has joined #gnucash
14:44:33 <XiXaQ> and the Vendor Bill system is only for businesses?
14:46:15 *** aart has quit IRC
14:46:47 <warlord> Well you can USE it for yourself, but really, why?
14:47:35 <warlord> You'll quickly find it's a lot of extra effort that, for personal use, probably wont buy you much.. Unless you're really in the habit of buying lots of things on credit?
14:47:41 <warlord> (and I dont mean by Credit Card)
14:48:14 <XiXaQ> I do have some of those.
14:50:50 <XiXaQ> then, if you want to track future bills, then the A/P is good to use?
14:51:00 *** sjc has joined #gnucash
14:51:31 <warlord> If you have credit and need to track the bills then yes, using AP and the vendor system might help you.
14:51:42 <warlord> .. to keep track ofhow much you owe your vendors.
14:51:42 <XiXaQ> cool.
14:51:46 <XiXaQ> right.
14:53:01 <warlord> But remember you cannot hand-enter txns into an AP account
14:53:09 <warlord> You /must/ use vendor bills and process payment
14:53:16 <XiXaQ> txns?
14:53:25 <jsled> transactions
14:53:28 <XiXaQ> oh :)
14:54:03 <warlord> yes

18:22:23 <nelt> Anyone else notice that if you have two copies of an Equity account open when you run the Close Books tool, that only one of the copies updates?
18:29:14 *** warlord-afk is now known as warlord
18:29:23 <warlord> What do you mean, "two copies of an Equity Account Open"?
18:33:11 <nelt> Two tabs.
18:33:21 *** iamawake has joined #gnucash
18:33:33 <nelt> I had accidentally double clicked on it twice.
18:34:40 <nelt> Since I had so many tabs open, I didn't notice the second copy and I assumed that the close books tool didn't work because it didn't update the copy I happened to be looking at.
18:35:49 <warlord> Uhhh... You shouldn't be able to open the same account twice..
18:35:57 <warlord> If you can, that's a bug.
18:36:17 <warlord> If you try to re-open an account it should pop up the open register.
18:36:26 <warlord> Maybe you have multiple accounts of the same name?
