12:36:59 <solomon> i get paid on the 7th and 21st of every month. is there any way to make a budget that reflects this schedule?

12:48:12 <vasanthv16> I have a Budget related question. How do I run a report on my budget and 'look into the future'? For example, I would like to know what my net worth would look like at the end of the year. Income & Expense > Budget Report doesn't seem to have an option to specify the date range for the report.

13:52:48 <zathras_laptop> what lib do i need to include when linking for gnc_book_get_root_account()?
14:02:00 *** warlord-afk is now known as warlord
14:02:22 <warlord> solomon: sure, make two sets, one for the 7th every month and once for the 21st every month.
14:02:38 <solomon> hrm, you mean two budgets?
14:02:46 <solomon> i suppose that's not a bad idea
14:03:12 <warlord> solomon: no, not two budgets.. Just two sets of recurring incomes
14:03:40 <warlord> vasanthv16: Are you sure there's no date range?
14:03:43 <solomon> warlord: i'm wanting to set up budgeting periods to coincide with that schedule
14:03:56 <warlord> zathras_laptop: 'find' is your friend?
14:04:11 <warlord> solomon: I've never used the budget feature so I dont know.
14:04:37 <solomon> ah, well thanks anyway
14:10:52 <zathras_laptop> warlord, the module it points to is gncmod-engine, which doesn't seem to be one i should link against?
14:17:24 <warlord> You do need to link against the engine.
14:17:31 <warlord> (or at least load it)

14:53:43 <bob> question about screen refresh when switch register tabs (2.2.9 Win2K)
14:54:10 <bob> is this just a windows problem?
14:55:09 <bob> google doesn't seem to have any results that I can find
14:56:24 <jsled> try the bug tracker?
14:56:49 <jsled> I'm not sure of what the problem is, but "register/tab refresh problems on windows" rings a very faint bell.
14:56:51 <bob> sometimes a single click brings it back - sometimes Ihave to click each transaction
14:57:08 <jsled> (but that might just be tinnitus. :)
14:57:40 <bob> looked at bugs, but didn't find any key word that made sense
14:59:04 <bob> tinnitus is great - saves having to buy music
15:00:37 <bob> question # 2 - I've recently been retired involuntarily and am thinking about helping
15:01:09 <bob> specifically, if there's an effort to go to a database backend
15:08:14 <jsled> there is.

15:11:04 <rgsteele||work> Hey folks. Trying to connect GNUCash to my bank (which I know supports online banking - it's TD Bank), but I can't seem to find the OFX information.
15:11:20 <rgsteele||work> I checked the wiki and exercised my Google-fu, to no avail.
15:12:21 <jsled> rgsteele||work: I don't know much about that, but I want to make sure you've seenhttp://wiki.gnucash.org/wiki/Setting_up_OFXDirectConnect_in_GnuCash_2
15:12:27 <rgsteele||work> Anybody happen to know the bank ID/bank code/SWIFT code for TD banknorth?
15:12:35 <jsled> (and it's "where to find connection info" section.)

15:47:15 <vasanthv16> warlord: I am reasonably sure there is no date range for the budget report (version 2.2.6)
15:52:34 <solomon> are there 'preferred formats' that are easier for gnucash to import from than others?
15:53:04 <solomon> i can choose QIF, QFX, OFX, QBO
16:01:31 *** Demitar has quit IRC
16:17:10 <jsled> solomon: dunno what QBO is, but gnucash has both a QIF and OFX importer
16:17:18 <jsled> I guess I'd recommend the OFX importer.
16:17:28 <jsled> but be sure to turn on bayesian matching in the prefs, first.
16:17:36 <jsled> (so it can better learn matching for subsequent imports)
16:18:07 <solomon> hrm, that sounds like a cool feature

18:42:54 <zathras_laptop> i've tried loading the gnc-business-backend-file backend, but that doesn't help
19:05:06 <solomon> is there an easy 'undo' in gnucash?
19:05:17 <jsled> quit without saving, reopen file.

19:15:15 <khc> When I imported my statements from my bank, I have one entry in my check account _and_ one entry in my credit card account showing that I've paid my credit card bill, how should I combine the 2 transactions into one?
19:21:24 <gxti_> are you importing both at once? that might not work
19:21:58 <gxti_> but if you import them separately, the payment from the first import should match up with the one from the second
19:23:02 <khc> I imported them separately
19:23:23 <khc> if it didn't happen automatically, what should I do now?
19:23:37 <gxti_> if you're already done importing, just delete one of them
19:24:03 <gxti_> but what you'd do is, the second time you would make sure the 'R' checkbox is checked
19:24:19 <khc> what does R mean?
19:24:26 <gxti_> reconcile
19:24:35 <gxti_> in other words, force it to match up with an existing transaction
19:24:40 <khc> Ah
19:25:16 <khc> maybe related, there's this 'R' column in the main view, most of them say 'c' but some of them are 'n', is that related to reconcile also?
19:25:24 <gxti_> yes
19:26:26 <khc> I can use a tooltip ;-)
19:26:37 <gxti_> that's the "real" reconcile function. when you get your bank statement, you check off the things that are in the statement, then use the reconcile function to make sure nothing has fallen through
19:27:35 <gxti_> http://svn.gnucash.org/docs/guide/txns-reconcile1.html
19:29:32 <khc> ya I am just reading the same thing through help
19:39:55 <khc> another question, is there a way to categorize multiple expenses at the same time?
19:40:29 <khc> basically I want to say everything that says "XXX" will go to "Expense Dining"
19:56:51 <solomon> my bank seems to like to export, say, a $0.00 transaction called "cashier's check to Bob's Tires for $200" and then post a separate $200.00 transaction called "WITHDRAWL"
19:57:10 <solomon> i have withdrawls set up to go to 'cash in wallet'
19:57:33 <solomon> so when i imported a couple of years' worth of data from my account, gnucash decided i have $26,000 in my wallet
19:57:56 <solomon> is there any way to automagically correct this? (or script correcting it, say with perl)?
