02:34:07 <Axsuul> can you add payees in gnucash or do they go in description?

04:00:03 <Marquel> warlord-afk: i have retried once more with rounding in oocalc - obviously gnucash rounds tax of each item where my vendor uses 4 digits behind decimal point and rounds the sum of taxes. in de it's usually this way (rounding sums, not items, or better: rounding items for display but not for further calculations). i don't know about other countries, but maybe this behavior should be at least configurable?

11:17:42 <Marquel> morning.
11:17:48 <Marquel> warlord: ping ;)
11:18:07 <warlord> Good morning.
11:18:46 <warlord> I forget offhand how the rounding happens in GnuCash; I believe that each tax is rounded and then summed...
11:19:00 <warlord> Making it configurable would be... challenging.
11:19:28 <Marquel> warlord: i guess so. so i'd suggest rounding the sum, not each item - as it seems it is now.
11:19:29 <warlord> The rounding happens at a fairly low level in the source code and passing down an option to there would be ... interesting.
11:19:41 <warlord> There were bugs that way, too.
11:19:56 <warlord> No one way works for everyone.
11:21:18 <Marquel> i guess so, so i'll hack it i guess. (had that problem before but was able to work around it by submitting items with more then two digits behind decimal point, but that ceased to work this time...)
11:23:15 <Marquel> warlord: technical question: does gc store more than two digits? or does it round to two digits, then store? and how many digits are significant anyway? seems, not more then four, but i may be wrong about that.
11:24:27 <warlord> Depends what you're talking about.. GnuCash stores numbers as rational numbers. But if it's storing it generally rounds then stores.
11:24:50 <warlord> But it depends which numbers.. Some numbers are always computed and not stored at all.
11:25:17 <Marquel> like taxes for taxable but not taxincluded items?
11:26:09 <warlord> Line-item taxes aren't stored.
11:26:23 <warlord> They are always computed; regardless of whether they are included or not.
11:34:31 *** ErKa has joined #gnucash
11:34:41 <Marquel> so i take it taxes are computed per item, rounded, summed up and upon making a transaction from the bill the sum is stored wherever tax tables tell it to?
11:46:04 <Marquel> if it is that way it shouldn't be hard to move rounding to sums... i love hand-polished code... *g*
11:57:48 <warlord> I honestly done recall offhand.
11:58:01 <warlord> it's in src/business/business-core/gncEntry
11:58:04 <warlord> (IIRC)
12:00:25 <Marquel> warlord: i'll find out ;)
12:00:33 <warlord> ok. :)

12:49:00 <mircmac> I two transactions in the same register. Select File>Print Check. One the note field gets printed, the other doesn't. What could be different?
12:53:41 <warlord> "I two transactions"[sic] is missing a verb.
12:53:58 <warlord> Note that you can only print one check at a time.
12:54:11 <warlord> Do both txns have notes files?
12:54:40 <mircmac> s/I two/I have two
12:56:22 <mircmac> warlord: after posting I switched to View>Transaction Journal and found one had a note the other didn't. Thanks. What's a note file?
12:56:57 <warlord> sorry, notes field.
12:58:43 <mircmac> warlord: Ok, just though it might be something I didn't know about, that might be useful. I never thought to try the txns journal view til now
12:59:42 <warlord> Go into double-line mode.
13:26:20 <mircmac> warlord: yes, got it. thanks!
13:26:29 <warlord> you're welcome.
