01:01:38 <Flash> Can someone help me install a Mac OS 10.5 version? I've tried source, MacPorts, and fink, and I can't get any of them to work properly
01:02:06 <warlord> Flash: You want MacPorts or fink.. Follow the instructions in the wiki.
01:02:36 <Flash> I (think) I got one or both of them to compile, but then it wouldn't run
01:02:51 <warlord> what happens when you try to run it?
01:02:52 <Flash> I have since blown it all away and am attempting to start again
01:03:06 <Flash> hang on... let me see if I still have the fink version
01:03:47 <Flash> I don't... I seem to remember a dialog about missing a database or something like that. I can't dismiss the dialog
01:04:10 <Flash> it says something about crash reporter, but it won't do anything at all
01:04:22 <Flash> I'll redo the MacPorts install and come back.....
01:06:11 <warlord> okay..
01:06:11 <warlord> I'm heading to bed, but it should take a good 6-10 hours to build everything.
01:06:24 <Flash> yea, I remeber
01:06:28 <Flash> remember, even
01:08:13 <warlord> okay..
01:08:14 <warlord> good night.

20:06:05 <adamplumb> hi all. I've just set up gnucash 2.2.6 on ubuntu 8.10 and am trying to use the Price Editor to retrieve online quotes through the yahoo service. But I get the "Unable to retrieve quotes for these items:..." error box
20:06:39 <adamplumb> I've retrieved prices for my securities in the past with previous gnucash/distro installs, but forget what I did to fix this error (Which I've seen before)
20:06:55 <adamplumb> I was hoping people had some clues about what I could look for to fix this issue
20:07:44 <adamplumb> I have libfinance-quote-perl 1.13 and libfinance-yahooquote-perl 0.22 installed
20:08:20 <warlord> Look for an F::Q update.
20:08:30 <warlord> I dont think 1.13 is "new enough" for modern yahoo.
20:09:21 <goodger> warlord: that edition of ubuntu is only two months old... :S
20:09:35 <warlord> I'm pretty sure F::Q is at 1.14
20:09:37 <adamplumb> the F::Q version I have is the standard ubuntu version
20:09:37 <warlord> er 1.15
20:09:57 <goodger> ubuntu don't upgrade things after release, usually
20:10:04 <warlord> 2008-Oct-26 Release 1.15 is available both from CPAN and Sourceforge. It is a bugfix release. Upgrade is strongly recommended.
20:10:13 <warlord> from http://finance-quote.sourceforge.net/
20:10:18 <adamplumb> is there a simple way to upgrade that perl module?
20:10:31 <warlord> gnc-fq-update.. but it'll break your packaging.
20:11:13 <goodger> ubuntu's packaging is broken by default, it probably won't hurt. no joke
20:11:16 <adamplumb> I'm not especially worried about that
20:11:24 <adamplumb> I'll try the update and see how it works
20:14:31 <adamplumb> Updating to 1.15 solved my problem.
20:14:40 <goodger> ^_^
20:14:48 <warlord> Told you
20:14:51 <warlord> :)
20:14:53 <adamplumb> too bad the version that comes with ubuntu doesn't work
20:15:03 <adamplumb> I'd bet a lot of people were left confused about it not working
20:15:15 <adamplumb> Thanks for your help though
20:15:16 <warlord> adamplumb: complain to ubuntu
20:15:30 <goodger> well, it would have been working at the time ubuntu was frozen...
20:15:52 <goodger> but yeah, file a bug in launchpad against this package
20:15:53 <warlord> 1.15 was released in October.. that's 2 1/2 months ago.
20:16:14 <goodger> warlord: that version of ubuntu would have been frozen in august
20:16:14 <adamplumb> did yahoo change their protocol in some way and that broke FQ?
20:16:36 <goodger> adamplumb: apparently
20:17:12 <adamplumb> https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libfinance-quote-perl/+bug/272777
20:20:12 <goodger> ...and they did not bother to fix it for intrepid final. `$pejorative`s...
20:21:15 <adamplumb> pretty lame, def
20:21:31 <adamplumb> i updated the bug report with my experience. hopefully it will be fixed for 9.04 ;)
20:22:35 <goodger> it was already, 9.04 has 1.13-4
20:23:40 <goodger> debian testing has 1.13-3 though
20:24:04 <goodger> I will file a grave bug against this that will delay the release of debian lenny until it is fixed. thanks for alerting me to it
20:25:56 *** adamplumb has quit IRC
20:30:53 <goodger> hmm, the bug already exists but is marked "normal". I have asked that it be upgraded to RC status
20:32:23 <warlord> The joys of screen scrapers.
20:32:33 <goodger> yeah
20:32:51 <goodger> I'm counting the seconds before google releases this stuff as an XML feed
20:33:00 <warlord> hahaha....
20:33:30 <goodger> almost certainly will require a google API key to use, and such, but it will work properly...
20:44:15 <goodger> actually, I will write to google about it.
