01:36:38 <klament> not sure if anyone's here at this hour, but I've just installed gnucash and have been going through the tutorial just fine.. the only hiccough seems to be getting automated price quotes on mutual funds
01:37:06 <klament> any suggestions on what the "type" should be for a fund? or how to parse what's going wrong when looking up a certain type of fund beyond the error message?
01:37:29 <klament> *beyond the error message saying the fund couldn't be found

09:15:51 <me> anyone got the time to field an ofx question?
09:27:53 *** warlord-afk is now known as warlord
09:27:59 <warlord> only if you ask it.
09:28:52 <me> thx. running the aqbanking wizard, when it gets to the login portion i get an error 15000
09:29:24 <me> it's a status indictating that my pin/password needs to be changed on my next login
09:29:46 <me> but the aqbanking wizard doesn't seem to handle it AFAIK.
09:30:12 <me> is there a way to handle the 15000 msg and provide a new pin/password?
09:31:01 <me> this is occuring in the section where I set up a user and bank - when I press the "get accounts" button
09:32:42 <warlord> Um, I'm afraid you'll have to ask the AqBanking folks about that.
09:32:49 <warlord> They control the wizard.
09:32:52 <warlord> (it's their code)
09:33:16 <me> yup, thought that was the case, just wondering if anyone ran into it and a possible solution
09:33:32 <me> seems like it would be common problem
09:34:04 <me> thank you - I'll try the aqbankers
09:35:19 <warlord> Well, you could ask on gnucash-user.
09:36:06 <me> thanks, I'll try it
09:38:59 <me> where is the gnucash-user channel hosted?
09:41:17 <warlord> not channel. mailing list.

15:43:10 <Barak> Hello ...
15:43:11 <klament> Hi there. Have any of you had success recently with automatically updating Canadian mutual funds via gnucash? I found a thread that was about 8 months old with a person using the unknown "stockhousecanada_fund" as the update source, but this doesn't seem to work either at this point.
15:44:31 <Barak> well hello again... I am practically new to gnucash and to the irc chat.. but I would like to learn more
15:44:51 <klament> yeah, I'm new to it too.. I just started using it yesterday
15:44:53 <klament> I like it so far :)
15:45:10 <Barak> I have been playing round with gnucash and think it is potentially a very good accounting system.
15:46:08 <Barak> well.. i have been able to upload the bank statements through a usb .qif which was excellent but now it does not work anymore ; any suggestions?
15:46:34 <jsled> in what way does it not work?
15:46:46 <jsled> Do you get an error message, or does gnucash crash, or … ?
15:47:02 <Barak> hi there...
15:50:15 <Barak> everything seems fine... i do the uploading of the .qif file and get to the file you have loaded on the wizard and then when i press forward, to match qif accounts with gnu cash accounts it does not pick them up... there is nothing to match on the screen...
15:50:25 <Barak> no error messages...
15:50:35 <klament> For example, the CIBC Asia Pacific Index Fund (CIB518 is the code -- I set the type as FUND) returns a response of "Unable to retrieve quotes for these items: FUND:CIB518. Continue using only good quotes?" .. this is when trying the suggested unknown stockhousecanada_fund and multiple sources such as the canada mutual (fund library), canada (yahoo), as well as trying a few single sources

15:51:26 <Barak> i can run the wizard to the end and click on apply after other selections such as currency etc. but it does not import any data!
15:51:57 <Barak> got upgraded to 2.2.7
15:52:53 <Barak> I like this system of communication! Xchat ... never used it before...
15:53:02 <Barak> very nice...
15:53:25 <jsled> hmm. Are you sure it's a different file, with new transaction data?
15:54:15 <jsled> Are … perhaps are the transactions being created in another "shadow" account? I've seen that in the past, where I have my normal Assets:Banking:Checking account, but the QIF importer created *another* Asset:Banking:Checking account for imported transactions.
15:54:32 <jsled> If you go back to the account tree, is there any funny business like that going on?
15:57:30 <klament> should I be bugging some kind of perl people about my question?
16:00:34 <Barak> i thought so myself but then i thought that it would come up in the grand total or otherwise or you mean if i have set up more then one account such as business and personal for example?
16:03:06 <Barak> i have recently tried to open two account like business and personal to keep things separated... i am not sure if i have succeeded!
16:06:53 <Barak> i though it was possible to open two separate accounts through new - account hierarchy .. but then i am not sure if that is possible ... i think they would merge into one would they not? at present i cannot seem to be able to open the business account created before! Perhaps it is the problem.

16:18:00 <ElectricBill> When I edit account for a stock, I don't see an option to select a price source. Why would that be?
16:19:57 <warlord> Because that's set as part of the stock.
16:20:28 <ElectricBill> Do you mean it is implied by the exchange or something like that?
16:20:34 <ElectricBill> if so, then where is it set?
16:20:40 <klament> if you go tools->security editor then find your stock via the market and hit "edit" you'll be able to change the source
16:21:05 <ElectricBill> I see it now, thanks...
16:21:11 <klament> you're welcome
16:21:17 <ElectricBill> so what triggers the inquiry?
16:21:29 <klament> tools->price editor "get quote" if you're configured properly with the right libraries
16:22:26 <ElectricBill> Gotya - I'm trying it now. Thanks again.
16:22:39 <klament> no problem

17:01:52 <dissident> New user question. In the ledger window, there is a column with a title of "R", I can't seem to find reference to this column in the docs. It has possible values of 'n' or 'c' when you enter a transaction. It defaults to 'n'. Uhm.... What is this exactly? :)
17:12:53 <jsled> It's the reconciliation status of the split

17:50:45 <Barak> Hello again; have checked the accounts and there seems not to be any 'shadow' account etc.. checked the account tree nothing there... any other suggestions?
17:52:42 <dissident> Ok, another new user question. Potentially windows (vista 32) specific. When I try to launch gnucash, I get a dialog window with title "No Disk", "There is no disk in the drive. Please insert a dik into drive X:." [Cancel/Try Again/Continue]. This dialog appears to be generated sometimes from guile.exe bost mostly from gnucash-bin.exe. Repeatedly clicking on "Continue" will eventually...
17:52:43 <dissident> ...lead to the program starting up. Have tried removing my .gnucash dir in home dir, and also under .gconf, and also tried removing/reinstalling. This is version 2.2.7.
17:53:28 <dissident> Is there a fix for this not listed in the faqs?
17:54:08 <Barak> I suspect there might be a problem with the importing wizard... since when i get to match QIF account with GnuCash accounts there is nothing to select...

21:49:06 <andrewsw> http://wiki.gnucash.org/wiki/Windows#Finance::Quote
21:49:11 <andrewsw> says no
21:51:39 <mib_rste0t> ah, thanks for the link.
21:52:49 <mib_rste0t> it says 'ActivePerl 5.10 is only supported by GnuCash versions 2.2.7 and above'. I have 2.2.7, so I'll give it a shot
21:54:51 <warlord> mib_rste0t: no, 5.10 is not ok
21:55:04 <warlord> at least historically it has not been.
21:56:38 <mib_rste0t> ok, will report back
