00:13:46 <CrashTest_> Hi! If I wanted to modify the invoice.scm file, what language would I need to be learning?
00:15:28 <CrashTest_> and by the way, freakin' awesome job on gnucash!
00:16:39 <CrashTest_> is scheme the language?
00:26:15 <mishehu> yes, it's scheme
00:26:24 <CrashTest_> Ah, there it is in the head. Not knowing much about scheme, didn't realize, .scm was in fact, scheme :)
00:26:25 <mishehu> I know nothing about scheme though
00:26:33 <CrashTest_> sorry for the dumb question.
00:26:52 <mishehu> it's ok, it's not one of the most commonly used languages around
00:27:03 <CrashTest_> Cool. Laters.

12:26:21 <xai> Hi all. I saw the FAQ about the "root account" insertion when downgrading between 2.0 and 2.2. Is it safe to move between the two versions?
12:46:12 *** warlord-afk is now known as warlord
12:46:24 <warlord> xai: Yes, but you need to manually remove the ROOT account every time.
13:10:10 <xai> Can I simply leave the ROOT account there?
13:12:22 <xai> I see what you mean now.
13:12:33 <xai> each time you go back the root account is created..
13:13:23 <warlord> No, you cannot just leave it there.
13:13:37 <warlord> Many things in 2.0 will not work, and then when you load back into 2.2 it can cause problems.
13:18:12 <xai> Right. Thanks for that. Just playing around with some test accounts..
13:18:46 <warlord> ok
13:26:17 <xai> Maybe that can be added to the faq..
13:26:49 <warlord> Is it not there?
13:27:33 <xai> it is, but not the part about causing problems by not re-parenting.
13:28:54 <warlord> Well, then, add it there.

15:02:18 <mhi> Hi. I wonder what the fastest (keyboard only) way is to select debit and credit accounts in the transfer dialog.
15:03:23 <jsled> Use the register instead? :)
15:04:26 <mhi> jsled: Excuse me, would you please explain this to a newbie...
15:05:03 <jsled> Are you familiar with the account register?
15:06:26 <mhi> jsled: Not related to keyboard usage, I'm afraid. I know there are some short cuts but I did not figure out how to use them.
15:06:27 <warlord> mhi: open the account and use the account register.
15:06:56 <jsled> mhi: the register works well between arrows, tab and auto-complete on the transfer account names.
15:10:28 <mhi> Hm. Imagine I would like to transfer some money from my savings account to my wallet. First I press "A" then "assets" get selected. After that...?
15:11:23 <jsled> Which register are you in?
15:11:57 <mhi> The tab says "Accounts".
15:11:57 <jsled> If Wallet, then you would type "A:Sav" … maybe even "A:S" if you don't have any other asset account that starts with 'S'.
15:12:11 <warlord> mhi: open either your savings or wallet account, then: type a : w

15:14:51 <mhi> ok. Those shortcuts by tpying ":" cannot be used in those tree views.
15:15:25 <jsled> right. They're strictly in the register column
15:15:40 <mhi> Thanks a lot.
15:17:00 <warlord> right.

17:42:25 <charwhee> Hi, I have a question. Is there a way to import the accounts from one gnucash file into another gnucash file.
17:43:21 <jsled> just the naked accounts? Or their transactions as well.
17:43:28 <charwhee> all the transactions too
17:43:56 <jsled> There's not directly. You could use something like gnucash2qif to convert your datafile to QIF, then import that QIF into the other file.
17:44:16 <charwhee> oh, that sounds perfect. where do I find that?
17:44:55 <jsled> google. :)
17:45:09 <charwhee> ah, well of course. Okay, thanks for the suggestion.

22:33:43 <Alful> Hi all!! Is is possible to password protect a gnucash file??
22:35:49 <warlord> Sure, if you have a password-protected filesystem.
22:36:21 <Alful> Thankx warlord. Hmm... that means no facility from inside gnucash. Sad.
22:36:39 <warlord> Of course not. GnuCash is a financial application, not a security application. See the FAQ.
22:37:34 <Alful> I meant how do I protect joe and harry from opening up my gnucash file. A simple password might have helped. Anyway thanks.
22:38:23 <warlord> Set the file permissions so Joe and Harry can't access it.
22:38:32 <warlord> a simple "chmod" will solve that.
