05:38:30 <strangespider> hi
05:38:45 <strangespider> someone from germany here?
05:40:20 <strangespider> i created a portfolio in gnucash and no i wanted to update it with yahooquote. but there are some problems...
05:40:43 <strangespider> http://download.finance.yahoo.com/q?s=DE0009772681EUR doesn't find the symbol
05:40:44 <strangespider> but
05:40:54 <strangespider> http://uk.finance.yahoo.com/q?s=DE000A0EQ5Q6EUR get it
05:41:30 <strangespider> so i think i should juse the "yahoo europe" server in gnucash as source
05:41:49 <strangespider> but setting this option doesn't give me a result it ends in an error
05:42:36 <strangespider> any suggestions?
05:43:17 <strangespider> in the links up there, there should be the same symbol, wrong copy and paste, but this isn't the point...

08:50:22 <warlord> strangespider: I believe there is a bug in F::Q -- check the list archives.
08:56:25 <warlord> aaron_: I would have asked "did you post the invoice?" but you left.
09:01:58 <strangespider> warlord: thanks, there are 4 bug reports in the archichve, but no one hast something to do with the "yahoo europe" problem...
09:02:32 <warlord> I thought it was a formatting issue
09:03:17 <warlord> I'm sure it was discussed on the list relatively recently.
09:03:34 <strangespider> http://rt.cpan.org/Public/Dist/Display.html?Name=Finance-YahooQuote
09:08:39 <warlord> that only means that nobody filed a bug report.
09:08:59 <warlord> (or that the F::Q people think it's been fixed -- or it was filed under a different module name)
09:11:25 *** JimRaehl has left #gnucash
09:13:42 <strangespider> where did you get your informations from?
09:15:11 <strangespider> http://rt.cpan.org/Public/Bug/Display.html?id=39475
09:15:24 <strangespider> perhaps this oneß
09:15:24 <strangespider> ?
09:16:40 <warlord> strangespider: from reading the gnucash mailing lists over the past, oh, 10 years?
09:16:57 <warlord> ...and from guessing about what the F::Q people may have done.
09:17:27 <warlord> But yeah, that bug looks right.
09:24:43 *** JimRaehl has joined #gnucash
09:29:43 <joslwah> warlord, Any plans to put in the bug fix I've reported?
09:30:43 <warlord> joslwah: have you filed a bugzilla report?
09:31:02 <warlord> .. or sent it to -devel?
09:31:18 <warlord> I don't have time right now, so youshould expand the eyes so it doesn't get lost.
09:32:30 <joslwah> O.k. I haven't but I can. I thought that given it was less than a one-liner I'd just post it here. I'll put it into the bugzilla sometime today.
09:32:49 <warlord> here is a bad place to post things.
09:32:57 <warlord> (in general)
09:33:11 <joslwah> O.k. You were impressively efficient last time. Fooled me. 8-)
09:33:20 <warlord> I had time then.
09:33:25 <warlord> I'm generally really busy.
09:33:44 <joslwah> O.k. It wasn't a down on you now. A real compliment on the efficiency last time.
09:33:54 <warlord> * nods *
09:34:09 <joslwah> I'll write it up, and do a proper patch.
09:34:17 <warlord> this is trunk?
09:34:35 <joslwah> Nod.
09:34:50 <joslwah> git diff does make things easy to supply the patch though!
09:36:07 <warlord> how about 'svn diff'?
09:36:16 <warlord> where are you 'git'ing from?
09:36:32 <warlord> (we don't have a git archive ourselves)
09:37:09 <joslwah> I'm using git-svn. And I probably want to change my patch a bit anyway. I'll have to double-check it, having now had a second look at it. Don't apply as is.
09:37:25 *** twunder has joined #gnucash
09:39:56 <joslwah> Once I've tidied it up I'll file it in bugzilla with a patch. Or should I just post to -devel?
09:40:17 <jsled> bugzilla
09:40:48 <jsled> maybe with a -devel pointer to the bug, stressing how trivial it is.
09:40:54 <warlord> bugzilla is better in general
09:41:22 <joslwah> O.k. Will do, but will be a bit later.

14:47:51 <muks> i have seen the UK vat section in the concepts guide, but it's very concise (i'm a business accounts newbie)

22:44:40 <FergatROn> hi, is anyone monitoring this channel?
22:45:35 <FergatROn> I have a couple questions, but one of them is, is it worth updating or adding to the Wiki? It seems that right now everything is done via the mailing list and the wiki just has a big FAQ section.
22:46:04 <jsled> Sure, improving the wiki is goodness.
22:46:10 <jsled> What do you have in mind?
22:46:22 <FergatROn> ok good to know. Schedule Transactions
22:46:32 <FergatROn> i'm new to accounting, but i've been running a business since '01
22:47:02 <FergatROn> so now i'm trying to figure out how to automate some of my checkcard expenses vs invoices vs bills...
22:47:09 <FergatROn> it's a little nutzo!
22:47:53 <FergatROn> So; i created a scheduled transaction page and i'm taking bits and pieces from the manual to give it some better content.
22:48:08 <jsled> Ah, cool.
22:51:39 <FergatROn> but for my real question. For the scheduled transaction, can I do bills or is it just bank transactions?
22:52:11 <jsled> by bills do you mean invoices?
22:52:33 <FergatROn> by "bills" I mean invoices I get from my vendors.
22:53:20 <FergatROn> see, I'm confused a bit. I have invoices I send to my customers, I have bills I get from my vendors, and I have "bills" that I get from McDonalds, Sears, or any other store I go to.
22:53:30 <jsled> ah. So, the specific business feature. No, they're not supported.
22:53:40 <FergatROn> Argh!?
22:53:41 <jsled> The business features are not supported by scheduled transactions.
22:54:08 <FergatROn> really!? Man so GNUCash really focuses on personal financing...
22:54:18 <FergatROn> the business feature is just... an add-on, kind of!?
22:55:04 <jsled> kinda. Derek wrote the business features. I added scheduled transactions a bit later, but a bit concurrently. We just didn't intersect.
22:55:41 <FergatROn> Is there plans for more business support for GNUCash?
22:56:02 <FergatROn> I really love it - but then again, I'm really new to handling the accounting aspect.
22:56:53 <jsled> There's not really plans for anything. The development momentum I've seen recently has been around getting a DBI-based backend to work. Some QIF improvments. Other general bugfixing.
22:57:23 <jsled> There's been a couple of efforts at things like significant python and php bindings.
22:58:20 <FergatROn> ok, understandable. I really need to get on the ball and start programming for linux.
23:01:44 <FergatROn> I'm a web dev. and I learned a bit of system programming. I really want to get into creating... or contributing to linux apps.
23:04:03 <jsled> cool. I think I'm trending the other way, myself.
23:04:05 <jsled> :)
23:04:18 <FergatROn> from sys. programming to web?
23:04:26 <jsled> right.
23:04:29 <jsled> Anyways, I'm heading afk. Cheers.
23:06:11 <FergatROn> cheers, thank for your insight.
