10:37:36 <Pedro_> is it possible
10:37:39 <Pedro_> ?
10:38:38 <jsled> Pedro_: http://wiki.gnucash.org/wiki/FAQ#Q:_How_do_I_change_the_register_colors.3F
10:39:40 <Pedro_> I use the win version jsled
10:40:13 <Pedro_> I just need more contrast as i have some visual problems
10:40:19 <jsled> The path might be different, but the idea is basically the same.

13:32:36 <cortana> is it possible to autonumber transactions?
13:34:33 <warlord> what do you mean by "autonumber"
13:34:42 <cortana> i'm not really sure, because the person who asked me has gone awayu
13:34:59 *** Pedro_ has quit IRC
13:35:00 <cortana> from the best of my memory, she had entered a number for each transaction by hand, but was looking for a way to automate the process more
13:35:22 <warlord> try hitting + in the 'num' column?
13:35:28 <cortana> we found out you can press + when in the transaction number field to use the last one plus one... but I think she wanted to renumber things for some reason
13:35:36 <cortana> i'll try to come up with a better question :)
13:35:53 <cortana> (after this next comes up) :)
13:36:48 <warlord> ok.

17:16:15 <[sinz]> If I post an invoice to A/Receiveable but have not processed a payment for the invoice why do line items from the invoice show up in the Income:Sales account?
17:16:29 <[sinz]> Shouldn't that only occur after I've processed the payment and the funds have been received?
17:18:45 <warlord> Accrual v. Cash Accounting. Invoicing is implemented as Accrual.
17:19:03 <warlord> To convert to Cash you manually subtract the A/R balance from your INcome.
17:22:30 <[sinz]> as a charge?
17:22:59 <warlord> huh?
17:23:03 <warlord> No... as an offset.
17:23:19 <[sinz]> where/how do I do that?
17:23:27 <warlord> "Income says I took in $25,000.. But A/R is $15,000, so my real income is only $10,000"
17:23:45 <warlord> Notice I said "Manually" -- you do that on, oh, your taxes.
17:23:46 <[sinz]> right
17:24:06 *** andrewb has joined #gnucash
17:24:17 <[sinz]> so you don't mean manually make an entry in gnucash
17:25:12 <warlord> correct
17:25:23 <[sinz]> ok
17:27:31 <[sinz]> So if I wanted to stick to cash accounting I'd need to stay away from invoicing altogether?
17:28:27 <warlord> THat, or just manually make the shift for the few cases that it really matters.
17:29:21 <[sinz]> Actually, I guess I'm confused. I certainly want to implement invoicing but what I don't understand is, if I have an invoice that is unpaid at the end of the year it will still show up as income as of the date that the invoice was posted.
17:29:50 <[sinz]> But when I'm paying taxes, I'd need to know the actual income received.
17:30:40 <warlord> Right....
17:30:49 <warlord> I told you how to handle that.. See above.
17:31:03 <[sinz]> Manually, outside of gnucash?
17:31:22 <andrewb> Hi, I've imported from OFX some transactions from both a checking account and credit card.
17:31:25 <andrewb> The import already has payment from checking account to credit card (payment out on one date from checking account and payment in to the credit card on another date). When I mark credit card payment as a transfer from the checking account it double records the deduction from my checking account.
17:31:26 <andrewb> Is there any way to get these two transactions to line up?
17:31:27 <andrewb> Thanks
17:32:58 <warlord> [sinz]: yes
17:33:11 <[sinz]> Warlord: thank you.
17:33:11 *** andi5 has quit IRC
17:34:41 <warlord> you're welcome
17:35:02 <warlord> andrewb: mark one as a duplicate.
17:35:08 <warlord> You'll have to manually do that.
17:38:35 <andrewb> I tried that but it wants a number but none of the transactions are numbered (number column is empty). I did try and give them numbers but then the duplicate action did nothing
17:40:42 <warlord> "it wants a number"?
17:43:37 <andrewb> In the checking account I select to actual payment out, right click and select duplicate transaction (may be that means copy transaction?)
17:43:39 <andrewb> So how do I mark it as a duplicate?
17:44:12 <warlord> During the import.
17:44:30 <warlord> You are trying to actually duplicate the transaction.. Not MARK it as a dup.
17:44:40 <warlord> marking as a dup is part of the import process.
17:44:49 <warlord> If you've already imported then you just need to delete one.
17:51:10 <andrewb> I'm not trying to duplicate the a transaction
17:51:12 <andrewb> The problem is that they have different dates, and I would like to keep the actual date in each account
17:51:13 <andrewb> (pay out from checking account on one date, the bank keeps my money for a few days, then the credit card receives the money)
17:52:20 <warlord> You can't do that without using a Transit Account.
17:52:32 <warlord> But if you do that then you lose the connection from the two accounts.
17:52:49 <andrewb> You read my mind
17:52:55 <warlord> I.e., you could do A->B and live with one date, or you could do A->T->B and lose the connection.
17:53:06 <warlord> Most people live with 1 date.
17:54:14 <andrewb> Thanks, I think about which method I use

19:54:29 <LordMetroid> Hmm, okay I am not an accountant so maybe someone could please explain
19:56:00 <LordMetroid> I created a business account, withdrew some dollars from my checking account under assets and specified Expenses:Foo as transfer
19:56:52 <LordMetroid> However what shall I do with the equity registers? I lost in equity, didn't I? As I now have X less in equity according to the equity = assets - liability

22:35:17 <livingtm_> I have a (hopefully) quick question about Gnucash. I've read the documentation and started to use gnucash to track more than just my checkbook...
22:35:56 <livingtm_> I am using the scheduler to auto-enter my mortgage payments, splitting interest, principle, and tax escrow.
22:36:23 <livingtm_> Problem is, now that im working with the budgets, I cant get the mortgage total payment to show up as a line item
22:36:28 *** twunder has joined #gnucash
22:37:10 <livingtm_> Gnucash isnt wrong, but when budgeting i usually think of the principle, interest, and escrow as a single budget item...
22:37:40 <livingtm_> any way to do this?
