08:16:31 <Daniel_> hi there, can someone help me with a possible bug in gnucash??
08:18:04 <Daniel_> hello
08:18:59 <Daniel_> where is the developer channel??
08:21:33 <warlord> We can't help you if you don't state your problem.
08:21:34 <Daniel_> warlord: good morning
08:21:54 <Daniel_> I took a picture of it: http://imagebin.ca/view/DcJ2mqSu.html
08:22:14 <Daniel_> the sum is worng and I dont know why it is doing that
08:23:15 *** ErKa has joined #gnucash
08:23:36 <Daniel_> the sum above are all right.
08:24:50 <warlord> Looks like there are some non-visible transactions
08:25:41 <Daniel_> I dont did it. and I put on my hand..
08:26:44 <Daniel_> I gonna update the program, I think might be a newer version
08:26:51 <warlord> 2.2.7 is current
08:27:03 <warlord> Are you sure that View -> Filter by .. -> Has everything selected?
08:27:23 <Daniel_> no. no filter selected
08:28:55 <warlord> What Sort Order do you use under View -> Sort by ... ?
08:30:22 <Daniel_> I uninstall it.. gonna reinstall the newer version now. I'll be back soon, thanks

09:02:30 <daniel_> hi warlord Im back again, I tried to install 2.2.7 on windows but it didnt run ... then I reboot back to linux and tried to use gnucash for kubuntu.. and I face the same problem. the sum is wrong..
09:02:39 *** twunder has quit IRC
09:03:07 <daniel_> Im not using filter or hide accounts
09:03:20 <warlord> I didn't say "hide accounts" -- I said "hidden TRANSACTIONS"
09:03:29 <warlord> What version are you running on LInux?
09:03:37 *** twunder has joined #gnucash
09:04:14 <daniel_> ok, it is an older version... 2.2.4, although I had an repo update before install it...
09:04:53 <daniel_> it's weird..
09:05:32 <daniel_> the hole thing sum right.
09:07:10 <daniel_> if you see, when I sum 21 with 262,41 it backs to 111,62
09:09:38 <daniel_> I will compile the newer version and check it out...
09:12:37 <warlord> It still looks (to me) like you have invisible transactions.
09:27:23 <daniel_> how can I make sure I dont have inviseble transactions??
09:30:48 <warlord> I dont know.. How did you get into this state in the first place?
09:30:53 <warlord> I've never seen this happen.
09:30:57 <warlord> (personally)
09:35:36 <daniel_> everything was ok until I start a new transaction
09:38:17 <daniel_> I mean, I registred the transactions of my credit card in the assets of my credit card transfering to liabilities as the manual tells to do.
09:38:37 <daniel_> then I paid the credit card, until there, everything was ok
09:39:02 <daniel_> then I started to register a new credit card bill, in the same way, and the all sum become a mess
09:41:16 <warlord> Sorry, I'm failing to follow you. I suspect it's because English isn't your first language and I apologize for not understanding you.
09:42:14 <daniel_> sorry my bad english, I'll try to be more careful when typing.
09:42:25 <daniel_> I thing I found what's happening
09:42:35 <daniel_> and seems to be a bug...
09:42:53 <daniel_> let me tell..
09:43:16 <warlord> Okay. I need to walk the dog -- I'll be back in about 10 minutes.
09:48:26 <daniel_> The credit card company do not register all my transactions in the same month. some of these bills are registered in another credit card statement, so I have, in month 10, transactions from the end of the month 8, for example, an skype bill in 8/29 comes only in the credit card statement of the month 10.
09:49:58 <daniel_> when I put it on gnucash it sums by date. no matter how I tell it to organize [I use to put the date of transaction on date field - for furure reconsiliation, and the number of documment I put the credit card statement month-year, such 092008
09:51:30 <daniel_> at beginning the account is right, because there's no month registred before 8 [ I just start using gnucash] when I put the following month the bug comes out
09:52:01 <daniel_> the first register becomes to month 8 not 9.. and gnucash sums to last credit card statement.
09:57:05 <daniel_> when I tell to gnucash to order by num, it sum the new debit with the credit thats the value is so weird
09:59:02 <daniel_> for example, the last credit card statement was 171.79 paid, so the total is 0, when I put a new transaction in debit which costs 16,00 when I tell to order by date the total is 16 [ all right] but when I tell to order by number the total is 187,79 [171,79+16,00] totally worng
09:59:07 <daniel_> worng
09:59:10 <daniel_> wrong
10:04:29 <daniel_> I know a workarround for it.. actually I couple ways..
10:05:07 <warlord> Right, the sum is always by date.
10:05:10 <warlord> That's not a bug.
10:05:32 <warlord> You should put the date into the transaction the date that you made the purchase, not the date it shows up on your account.
10:06:47 <daniel_> first I will try to use subtransactions.
10:07:12 <warlord> The reason is that it's a promise to pay.. so you've already allocated the funds, even if they haven't posted to your account.
10:07:23 <warlord> When you RECONCILE, then you balance your accounts vs. the statements.
10:07:38 <warlord> Remember: I asked you how you sorted it?
10:08:16 <daniel_> no
10:08:28 <daniel_> I cant remember
10:09:22 <warlord> <warlord> What Sort Order do you use under View -> Sort by ... ?
10:09:31 <daniel_> date
10:09:41 <warlord> Change it to Standard
10:11:06 <daniel_> but, since I'd like to see the creditcard statement, I tried to organize it using both, date and number... but about the sorting by number.. isnt wrong to sum those values?
10:12:20 <warlord> Nope.
10:12:39 <warlord> The sum is always by Standard Sort Order.
10:12:41 <warlord> Always.
10:12:57 <warlord> If you change the sort order the sum/balance does not get recomputed.
10:13:45 <daniel_> ok
10:15:20 <daniel_> thanks warlord a lot I understand it all. sorry my bad english, and the lack of accouting knowledge... I use gnucash just for a week, and i work with computers, not accouting. :D but im very excited with this software.

10:15:41 <warlord> No worries. And you're welcome.
10:16:08 <warlord> I highly recommend you read the GnuCash documentation. It's only in English, but it's still very good and explains much of how GnuCash works.

10:24:12 <puggy> Anyone know anything about getting OFX to work? I'm getting an error when I try and connect to Nationwide Building Society in the UK
10:24:25 *** daniel_ has quit IRC
10:25:03 <puggy> Basically I've found some settings which look correct, but I get an error when I try and do the actual connection
10:26:48 <puggy> If I dont force SSLv3 I dont get asked about a certificate and I get a TLS error one the command line (nothing in the GUI) and no accounts are returned.
10:27:46 <puggy> If I enable SSLv3 it prompts me to accept the Nationwide SSL certificate but then fails with a Internal Server Error (500)
10:27:54 <puggy> Not sure what else to try.
10:34:57 <warlord> You might try asking on the mailing list?
10:36:50 <puggy> ok

14:45:18 <djmccart> Hi all! I'm running gnucash 2.2.7 on a Windows XP box, and when I print an invoice, all teh characters come out upside-down and backwards. I see there are a lot of submissions to this in bugzilla; I was wondering if there was a workaround I could use in the meantime.

21:32:58 <arhart> Hi, I'm trying out gnucash (pulled 2.2.4 from ubuntu). It seems to me that "File, New, New Accounts Page" and "File, Open, Open Budget" apply the same operation to different objects. Is there something fundamentally different between the two such that changing "New Accounts Page" into "Open Accounts Page" wouldn't make sense?
21:41:36 <warlord> Yeah, probably
21:53:35 <arhart> warlord: what might that be?

22:47:10 <overrider> good morning all; how would i implement a pettycash account into my gnucash ? i am giving my gf 2000, and she buys what she buys, once the 2000 are about spend, she returns the receipts and any leftover cash to me and i enter it in. What i did right now was: Make a new Account called Pettycash(Cash), and transfer 2000 there from my Cash in Wallet. As soon some expenses occur, i will record them there, and when it is time to refill the account, i will transfe
22:47:10 <overrider> r some more from my Cash in wallet account. Is this the right way? thanks
22:47:58 <warlord> That's certainly one way.
22:51:25 <overrider> i hope this will help me to control some spending
22:51:47 <overrider> should that account be under current assets? since it also is a cash account
