16:54:37 <rmf> hello...
16:55:06 <jsled> hello
16:55:11 <rmf> could anyone tell me if they use gnucash in conjunction with anything else (ie stock control in a shop etc..?)
16:55:19 <rmf> hey jsled
16:56:17 <jsled> People have talked about it, but without a reallly dead-simple integration interface it's kinda hard.
16:56:22 <jsled> And not having a concept of inventory.
16:57:12 <rmf> i'm getting involved in a project that needs to control lots of stuff going on. Does that mean i'm going to be better to build a DB?
16:57:55 <rmf> and would you recommend openoffice dbase, or mysql? whatever i do i'm gonna have to learn from scratch.
16:59:36 <warlord> rmf: gnucash does not have an inventory system, so it would might be hard to use it as-is to control lots of stuff. It's mainly an accounting program.
17:00:26 <jsled> mysql. :)
17:00:57 <warlord> heh
17:05:18 <rmf> no w there's a turnup, init?? ;)
17:06:06 <rmf> is mysql easy to make up forms and have 'normal' people use it. jsled ?
17:06:10 <rmf> AND...
17:06:43 <rmf> could you recommend a good book for the beginner & a good reference to speed things along?
17:07:40 <warlord> rmf: "no w there's a turnup, init" ??? Huh?
17:09:02 <jsled> mysql is just the database … you generally want some front-end for doing RAD or form-building.
17:09:31 <warlord> LAMP? ;)
17:10:07 <rmf> warlord, -- i wanna knpw about SQL in a gnucash room & jsled is @mysql. just expressing gratitude to the great force that is in the form of irony (but not very good at it :(
17:10:27 <rmf> jsled, suggestion..?
17:10:39 <warlord> There are a bunch of Mysql books out there.
17:10:41 <jsled> looking...
17:12:45 <jsled> rmf: what platform?
17:13:22 <rmf> debian
17:13:24 <rmf> ;)
17:14:04 <rmf> was looking at mysql training, but no ways i can afford any of that :(
17:14:26 <rmf> we're a not for profit project :(
17:14:46 <jsled> Well, there's <http://www.glom.org/wiki/index.php?title=Main_Page>, but I don't know anything about it.
17:15:04 <rmf> ...and at the moment a full timwe and not for wage one too...
17:19:15 <jsled> Also, you can get really far just defining the model you want in django, and using their auto-generated admin console.
17:19:35 <jsled> (either with admin hinting, or just building optimized ui when you need it)
17:21:23 <jsled> Sorry ... I gotta get. Try irc://irc.freenode.net/mysql if you have more questions along those lines. :)
17:26:09 <rmf> wicked. Thanks jsled
17:26:16 <rmf> :)

22:30:11 <PoniesVista> Also, does anyone here know if such income is taxable? Either way, I want to account for this with enough granularity that I can recover the information for tax purposes
