02:51:09 <suhas> I am trying to use gnucash. however I was just wondering if it possible to support some database like postgres on windows ?
02:52:27 *** warlord-afk is now known as warlord
02:52:32 <warlord> suhas: not yet.
02:53:23 <warlord> Maybe in 2.4
02:53:36 <warlord> (if the dbi backend work integrates)
02:56:36 <suhas> is the support available for Linux.. coz I could see some old versions talked about supporting postgres but not the 2.2.5
02:57:26 <warlord> The last version of gnucash that officially supported PG was 1.6
02:59:30 <warlord> but /hopefully/ 2.4 will support PG, mysql, and SQLite
03:01:14 <suhas> all right ! thanks a lot ! :-)
03:01:48 <warlord> NP
03:01:53 <warlord> why would you want PG on win32 anyways?
03:15:23 <suhas> its like I want gnucash to be intefaced with any DB , I have my gnucash running on windows.. as of now I use the XML generated by gnucash and export that to my mysql DB...
03:16:20 <warlord> Why
03:16:21 <warlord> ?
03:17:57 <suhas> I want to run some custome queries for generating some reports like calculating sort term and long tem gains for my investments...
03:18:27 <warlord> And you can't write a report in the gnucash reporting language because....????
03:19:32 <suhas> I am not sure but probably I am not aware of that gnucash can help me someways to generate some custom reports as well...
03:20:24 <warlord> I'm pretty confident that anything you can ask for gnucash can either do now or could do with a little report-writing.
03:23:57 <suhas> you mean I can do some data operations before report generation
03:24:19 *** StocksR has joined #gnucash
03:24:25 <warlord> yes. or as part of report generation. scheme *is* turing complete afterall.
03:26:07 <suhas> all right ! let me try figuring out .. thanks once again
03:26:50 <warlord> you;'re welcoe

11:22:13 <xai> Hi all. Is there any way to remove all transactions at the end of the year and start from scratch?
11:22:49 <xai> That is, not removing clients and other info, but removing all transactions for the prior year/
11:24:49 <xai> I see the faq entry, now..

21:19:27 <adamfff> Hi! I'm a new GNUCash user and I'm trying to figure out whether or not to split Expense:Grocery items into each individual item such as bananas, apples, milk, etc. Or just as Groceries and Tax. Do people typically split grocery bills into each item with GNUCash? Would there by any benefit to this (ie: track the increase in price of flour or milk over the course of a year)?
21:19:47 <jsled> I don't track individual items, but I do track some subsets.
21:20:18 <jsled> e.g., food vs. alcohol vs. pet food vs. health/beauty items
21:20:53 <jsled> But note that I say this as I'm just filing away the last 3 months of receipts, unentered, as I'm behind on data entry. :/
21:22:03 <adamfff> Thanks, I figured that maybe that was the intended use. I couldn't find any tutorials on the net with split entry items right down to milk and eggs.
