03:07:23 <oef> Good Morning - my 1st time here!
03:08:31 <oef> I have GnuCash 2.2.4 on ubuntu. I am a newbie - how do I upgrade to 2.25?
03:10:13 <oef> I have gone into the Synaptic Package manager, but it only offers to re-install 2.2.4!

06:14:37 <andi5> oh, even intrepid and debian unstable lack behind a version... so the only way would be to build gnucash from source

11:51:59 <Aubrey> Hi everyone, please can you assist... how do you write off bad debts in Gnucash?
12:03:40 <cortana> Aubrey: someone oweing you money is an asset
12:03:48 <cortana> you write it off by transferring it to an expense account
12:03:56 <cortana> (that could be called 'bad debts' for instance)
12:08:26 <Aubrey> Got all that, have created an expense account call Bad Debts. What I would like to do is create a "Payment" for the customer which will decrease my Accounts Receiveable and increase my bad debts. Howevever, I can't seem to see my expenses under my Transfer account window when trying to process the payment.
12:09:08 <cortana> ah, i don't use the business features so i don't really know how best to do that
12:11:00 <Aubrey> Is there anyone else who can help?
12:59:03 <lters> Just use the account register
12:59:21 <lters> transfer likely only works from one asset to another asset...

16:21:25 <micha> Hi andi5
16:21:36 <andi5> ha :-)
16:21:40 <andi5> you are too fast
16:21:45 <micha> pfft :-)
16:21:51 * andi5 needs to finish another mail
16:23:03 <andi5> sooo... one issue is resolved already, yeehaw :)
16:23:21 <andi5> regarding pin/tan caching... there is a flag i do not look at yet
16:23:45 <andi5> GWEN_GUI_INPUT_FLAGS_TAN ... would it suffice to disable the cache and checkbox when this one is found?
16:24:02 <micha> probably...
16:24:08 * micha diggs into details...
16:24:12 <andi5> i will make up a patch
16:24:24 <andi5> may you provide a sensible text for a tooltip?
16:24:34 <andi5> i guess we need both, english and german
16:25:01 <micha> we don't have a tooltip right now, correct?
16:25:15 <andi5> certificate cache... i will need to research this one first before i can comment on it
16:25:17 <andi5> i think so
16:25:45 *** ErKa has quit IRC
16:27:09 <micha> so, you propose to add the tooltip. Is this additionally to concising the text "Remember _PIN"?
16:27:41 <andi5> to what?
16:27:59 <andi5> rpin? :)
16:28:27 <andi5> i wonder whether we need the same tooltip in the preferences dialog... but there is one already, is not it? ...well
16:30:13 <micha> just checked GWEN_GUI_INPUT_FLAGS_TAN: The API documentation says "#define GWEN_GUI_INPUT_FLAGS_TAN 0x00000020: The input is a TAN (this is used by GWEN_Gui_GetPassword)"
16:30:39 <micha> so, as it references explicitly to GWEN_Gui_GetPassword I assume you're right. ;)
16:30:44 <andi5> but that is documentation =)
16:30:50 <andi5> face the real life, man!
16:31:48 <micha> well, I guess you're right: Martin isn't very good at documenting changes aswell...
16:32:08 <andi5> hehe, that was not specifically tied to martin :)
16:32:16 <andi5> we will see
16:35:31 <micha> I just had a look into the AqBanking source: AH_User_InputTan calls GWEN_Gui_GetPassword with flag GWEN_GUI_INPUT_FLAGS_TAN set. :)
16:35:45 <andi5> regarding the mail about the incorrect callback implementation... do you experience the same bug, can you reproduce it?
16:35:53 <andi5> what about pins?
16:36:34 <micha> about pins: It's not that easy to track, because flags are passed from some higher level (I'll report back later)
16:36:48 * andi5 gives it a try
16:37:50 <micha> callback functions: I can't reproduce it because I have no DDV card which requires a safe pin-entry.
16:38:06 <andi5> ok
16:38:09 * micha uses HBCI over PIN/TAN only at the moment...
16:39:19 <andi5> i do hbci over pin/tan and hbci over some rsa medium, whatever that is called
16:41:09 <andi5> ok, seems to work basically.... *pushing*
16:44:31 <micha> BTW: src/import-export/qif-import/schemas/, src/import-export/aqbanking/ and src/import-export/aqbanking/schemas/ could benefit from some svn:ingore property changes...
16:45:00 <andi5> hm... would the same as in hbci suffice? ... i do not use svn a lot :)
16:45:10 <andi5> at least directly
16:45:55 <andi5> ah well, i need a checkout anyway to change them... (at least it would ease things)
16:46:23 <micha> run "svn pe svn:ignore src/import-export/qif-import/schemas/" and add a line "apps_gnucash_import_qif.schemas" in the editor
16:47:09 <andi5> do you need them now?
16:47:17 <micha> or "svn pe svn:ignore src/import-export/aqbanking/" and add the lines ".libs", ".deps", "Makefile" to it.
16:48:10 <micha> no, it's an aesthetical but yet easy change... :-)
16:48:45 <andi5> gimme 10 minutes :)
16:49:25 <micha> "svn pe svn:ignore src/import-export/aqbanking/schemas/" and add the lines "apps_gnucash_dialog_hbci.schemas" and "Makefile" :)
16:49:40 <andi5> see, i do not have an svn checkout
16:49:48 <andi5> read git :)
16:50:11 <micha> then you should be able to use the complete SVN urls instead :-)
16:50:26 <andi5> indeed
16:53:18 <andi5> man, this libsvn-perl outage of intrepid makes everything unnecessary complicated ... hmpf
16:53:58 <micha> outage? Didn't know about any...
16:54:09 * micha uses plain old Debian Etch. :-]
16:54:13 <andi5> was not installable for a while, but it works now again :)
16:54:24 <andi5> perl5.8 -> perl 5.10, yeehaw
16:54:44 <andi5> oh... my bread is going to finish soon =)
17:02:39 <micha> just finished the AqBanking code review regarding GWEN_Gui_GetPassword: The flag GWEN_GUI_INPUT_FLAGS_TAN is exactly used once: Within AH_User_InputTan. I believe it's safe to rely on this flag.
17:03:10 <andi5> see r17259 then :)
17:06:31 <andi5> sorry, it took me 18 minutes :-)
17:06:52 <micha> looks good. :)
17:07:35 <micha> What do you think about the "Remember _PIN" vs. "Remember _PIN for current Gnucash session" change?
17:08:38 <andi5> where do you want to do that and how?
17:10:04 <micha> aqbanking.glade lines 2519 and 2610
17:10:31 <andi5> oh, no tooltip then?
17:10:33 <micha> I thought about just replacing the text...
17:10:35 <micha> yes
17:10:49 <andi5> hm... would not that bloat the dialog?
17:12:59 <micha> no, I think not: The "Online Banking" settings shows much wider texts anyways
17:13:59 <andi5> but we are talking about the password entry dialog right now, right?
17:14:51 <andi5> actually, i am still favoring to keep the string as it is and add a textual explanation, including that we do not save tans... we do the same in the preferences dialog and options dialogs a lot
17:15:05 <andi5> the explanation as tooltip, of course
17:15:14 <micha> I would change both (if at all) in order to keep translation effort as low as possible (just one string to translate for both)
17:15:39 <andi5> but right now the string is translated, right?
17:15:44 <micha> yes
17:15:56 <andi5> so why not just add a new string which is not showed by default?
17:16:22 <andi5> from a translators view this would be better, i think
17:16:31 <micha> I think we can ommit the explanation that we do not save TANs. The user wouldn't expect it to happen, as it's talking about PINs...
17:16:44 <andi5> ok
17:17:36 <micha> so, your suggestion is to add the "new string" meaning the tooltip?
17:17:46 <andi5> yep
17:17:51 <micha> okay
17:18:12 <micha> The tooltip should mention that no PIN is ever stored on disk.
17:18:21 <andi5> and only for the running session
17:18:27 <andi5> :-)
17:18:37 <micha> yep :)
17:18:38 <andi5> no background daemon or so
17:18:48 <micha> no keyboard loggers :-P
17:18:51 <andi5> no?
17:19:03 <andi5> wieder was gelernt
17:24:54 <micha> yes, I wrote him privately...
17:25:53 <andi5> seems like he is correct, my showbox implementation uses gtkdialogs... weird
17:26:02 <andi5> who the heck wrote that stuff? ..... ;-)
17:27:27 <andi5> hm... but it does not run it... so it is basically what it should be ...
17:27:34 <andi5> man, that guy must be wicked ;-)
17:42:30 <micha> the man who wrote the aqb3 port? Or who?
17:42:44 <andi5> may be the same guy, indeed
17:44:16 <micha> hmm, I suppose an update of the experimental packages is needed soon...

22:52:18 <oef> Hi, Yes - I am running Ubuntu (Hardy Heron), and got 2.2.4 - I can't see anyway to get the latest version (Is 2.2.5 available for Ubuntu - I would assume so) without doing an uninstall/ install. But when updating the packages in the Syapttic Package Manager, it only show 2.2.4. So how do I make it aware that 2.2.5 is available?
22:53:23 <oef> (Sorry, I am in South Africa, and was away form my PC - there was Tour de France, Men's Final at Wimbledon, and the British GP on yesterday - I was stuck to the TV!)
