12:14:24 <richb> Hi all. I'm trying to upgrade from 1.8.9 on FreeBSD to 2.2.5 on win32, but loads of transactions get lost when I open my account file in the new version. Any ideas?
12:15:36 <richb> I've just copied the file over. All of the accounts show up fine, and most of the transactions, however quite a lot of the transactions seem to be missing.
12:16:33 <richb> This _might_ be a filter or some other new setting, but I don't think so -- the account totals are now different: that wouldn't be a display setting, would it?
12:17:48 <richb> I guess I could try unix2dos on it -- the xml file I copied over has unix file endings. Seems unlikely to be the cause though.

12:47:24 <richb> no surprise: unix2dos had no effect.

13:01:50 <richb> how do you build this on win32? I would have a look at the code to see if I can diagnose the issue (might be a very simple thing), but all the dev instructions are for unix

17:48:37 <ectospasm> I've got a problem with importing my QFX file from my bank... gnucash fails to import some transactions, when I can see them if I open the QFX editor in vim
17:49:43 <ectospasm> the major one missing, and it's happened to me several months in a row, is that it fails to pick up my rent payment
17:50:20 <ectospasm> ...it also fails to pick up numerous small, seemingly duplicate transactions to my savings account.

21:04:21 <harlan> is there a place I can get a .pdf of the tutorial/user guide that best matches 2.2.5?
21:14:38 <ectospasm> wwar
21:14:40 <ectospasm> oops
21:33:25 <ectospasm> warlord: I think my qfx files overlap in time, with usually a day or two overlap from month to month...
21:33:49 <warlord> Well, the overlap items should only import once, obviously.
21:33:54 <warlord> But that didn't answer my question

21:45:09 <ectospasm> warlord: how do you suggest I search for duplicates? my knowledge of uniq and sort is limited...
21:45:40 <warlord> umm.. grep for FITID and then sort it and look manually?
21:45:53 <warlord> or... uniq -d
21:48:38 <ectospasm> right, I did that, and it didn't return anything
21:48:39 <jsled> harlan: the PDFs at http://www.gnucash.org/docs.phtml for 1.8 are your best bet, I think.
21:49:56 <ectospasm> warlord: the one FITID I know it missed was not found but once in the file I imported... And it doesn't exist in any of the other qfx files I've imported.
21:50:10 <ectospasm> ...previously
21:50:18 <warlord> ever?
21:50:44 <ectospasm> grep 2008053001 *.qfx only returns one line
21:51:34 <warlord> does this transaction look anything like another transaction?
21:51:43 <warlord> similar amount and date?
21:51:54 <warlord> .. or description?

21:52:42 <ectospasm> warlord: it's my rent payment, so it otherwise is identical to a bunch of other transactions...
21:53:37 <ectospasm> I have a bunch of small ($1-$6) which are all identical too, transfers to savings...
21:53:52 <ectospasm> And I know it missed a number of those, how many I don't know.
21:54:01 <warlord> And they don't show up in the transaction matcher UI?
21:54:10 <warlord> s/don't/didn't/?
21:54:59 <ectospasm> there are usually over 100 transactions, so if some are missing I don't notice until I reconcile
21:56:16 <ectospasm> the reconciliation should be click, click, done, but because Gnucash has consistently missed many of the transactions which are in the qfx file, I'm beginning to think it's not worth my time...
21:57:36 *** localhost has joined #gnucash
21:58:08 <ectospasm> I'm going to try to get another qfx file, and see if an empty file has the same issues...
22:01:10 <ectospasm> or maybe... do you think I'd have better luck importing a file for Quicken for Macintosh or even Microsoft Money instead? I had been generating the qfx for Quicken for Windows...

22:08:13 <warlord> I have no idea.
22:08:31 <warlord> I really dont know the OFX improter matching logic, in particular when it specifically ignores transactions.
22:09:02 <warlord> But it's POSSBLE that the importer listed it, but thought it was a duplicate (because it was a similar value within a week) and you didn't change it from "dup" to "new"
22:12:02 <warlord> Note that /me has never used the OFX importer in actual usage.
22:22:19 <ectospasm> I would suspect that duplicates would be color coded or something in the UI
22:22:42 <ectospasm> ...or maybe I missed something
22:23:31 <warlord> I'm afraid I dont know.

22:23:54 <warlord> (I would hope that it's TEXT encoded in addition to color -- for those color-blind users who can't differentiate)

22:37:39 <harlan> jsled: thanks - I was hoping for something newer than 1.8 but that version should be OK for now.
22:38:25 <jsled> harlan: the concepts and even the bulk of the ui is the same from 1.8 to 2.{0,2} … but of course the gtk2 shift was made in 2.0, so things will be a bit different.
22:44:21 <harlan> OK, thanks jsled.

22:55:27 <ectospasm> warlord: seems that importing the qfx for Quicken for Macintosh, into a new gnucash file, seems to have fixed the issue. I will try again next month, on this new file.
