12:04:03 <LarstiQ> moin
12:08:30 <LarstiQ> I'm importing Postbank data into gnucash (csv -> qif -> gnucash). I'm a bit confused by the duplicates dialog the qif importer shows.
12:09:30 <LarstiQ> Lots of items on the left only give one item on the right. Does that mean it has found exactly one duplicate, or no duplicates?
12:10:14 *** andi5 has joined #gnucash
12:10:14 *** gncbot sets mode: +o andi5
12:12:05 <SamRose> LarstiQ: it is doing double entry, which means it is "money in/money out" if you look at it in that context, it should make more sense

12:16:53 <LarstiQ> SamRose: eh. That doens't make sense for the duplicates window in the QIF importer. I understand that is how accounts in GnuCash work, and I have no problem with that.
12:17:47 <LarstiQ> SamRose: a case that is clearer in the importing is when it lists 3 possible duplicates. They just happen to be the same cash machine and amount, they're not actual duplicates.
12:19:31 <LarstiQ> but even then I'm only able to check one of those as duplicate, frankly, that entire part of the QIF Druid is confusing to me.
12:21:24 <SamRose> LarstiQ: Hopefully someone else will chime in here. I have not done this in a while, but I recall there is something in the qif data that you can use to differentiate things like different cash registers, etc prior to import
12:25:07 <LarstiQ> SamRose: thanks, I'll experiment some more
12:32:17 <SamRose> LarstiQ: If you figure out, maybe you can post a quick description at http://wiki.gnucash.org/ because there is little there about this. I'll fire up my gnucash later and see if I can also recall what I did to sort ou tthese duplicates

12:40:06 <LarstiQ> SamRose: ok, with a small test.qif, it presents all the items on the left, and each has only one item (namely, itself) on the right. Not checking anything and just continueing results in an import as I'd want it.
12:42:42 <LarstiQ> SamRose: and checking each item as duplicate results in zero new transactions.
12:51:38 <nbinont> andi5: laggy pong ;)
12:51:42 <andi5> yeah :-D
12:52:05 <nbinont> yes, next weekend works great
12:52:22 <andi5> yep, just read your mail, great!
12:52:37 <andi5> i will write to g-d ml today
12:52:57 <nbinont> cool
12:54:56 <andi5> nbinont: i already added this shared calendar to my list, but i could not write to it, so now it should work, i guess =)
12:56:34 <LarstiQ> SamRose: hmm. I don't fully have the hang of it, but I'll just ignore the duplicates window when I know there won't be any :)
12:56:37 <nbinont> yes...and you also have privs to invite others
12:56:46 <nbinont> (to modify)
12:56:59 <andi5> 'k
12:57:15 <andi5> thanks...
12:57:42 <warlord> LarstiQ: What version of gnucash?
12:57:46 <andi5> hm.. somewhere i read "Gnucash" today and i wanted to fix this .. now i cannot find it ;-)
12:58:07 <LarstiQ> warlord: 2.2.1, the one that is in gutsy
12:58:42 <warlord> LarstiQ: Update to 2.2.4
12:59:00 <andi5> that version is included in hardy
12:59:14 <andi5> (or will be in a few days)
12:59:17 <LarstiQ> warlord: I will before the end of the month, due to hardy. Anything in specific that fixes?
12:59:28 <warlord> Lots of QIF import fixes.
12:59:32 <LarstiQ> hmm
12:59:40 <LarstiQ> tempting to try it right now then :)
12:59:41 <andi5> LarstiQ: take a look at the release announcements on www.gnucash.org
13:00:17 <andi5> warlord: any objections to gnucash 2.2.5 next weekend?
13:00:21 <LarstiQ> andi5: yeah, I've seen those, but warlord seemed to recommend upgrading for a specific reason. (And I'll try it now)
13:01:26 <andi5> charles is offline anyway, so outbursts of bug fixes are not to be expected :)
13:01:28 <warlord> andi5: nope. I've been trying to catch up on the -changes auditing and also making sure that all the AUDIT patches have been.
13:01:45 <andi5> yep, that is what i am going to do this weekend as well
13:02:03 <andi5> i lag behind a lot, mainly because of the aq3 work which lagging behind itself now ;-)
13:03:34 <LarstiQ> warlord: #336211 looks very relevant, thanks
13:04:34 <warlord> andi5: no worries. I'm still 117 messages behind .
13:04:40 <warlord> LarstiQ: you're welcome.
13:04:51 <andi5> LarstiQ: for more information, visit http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=$bugid
13:05:37 <LarstiQ> andi5: thanks, I already read that :)
13:06:02 <LarstiQ> andi5: since the release announcement itself isn't very informative, you need to look at bugzilla anyway
13:07:09 <andi5> LarstiQ: yep, i am rather lazy :)
13:07:30 <andi5> LarstiQ: but i guess i will start to modify bug titles that are too meaning-less
13:07:45 <LarstiQ> andi5: that would be great
13:14:54 <LarstiQ> warlord: sweet! No more duplicates prompt :)
13:15:14 <warlord> :)
13:15:26 <warlord> note that there IS a bug in qif-import in 2.2.4...
13:15:39 <warlord> So you'll want to update your version of qif-to-gnc.scm from the version in SVN
13:16:17 *** sophacles has joined #gnucash
13:16:19 <LarstiQ> do you know which bug # that is?
13:18:06 <sophacles> hi all, i keep track of my savings account using an "evelope" style methodology. currently i have this set up as: savings account is a placeholder and one "real" subaccount for each envelope. This strikes me as a silly way to do it. can anyone reccomend a better way for this?
13:18:06 <LarstiQ> warlord: http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=511231 perchance?
13:18:14 <andi5> nbinont: thanks again :)
13:20:57 <LarstiQ> or #512208 perhaps
13:21:34 <warlord> LarstiQ: I dont recall.
13:21:36 <warlord> check trac?
13:22:47 <LarstiQ> warlord: multiple bugs are mentioned. I've just pulled the latest qif-to-gnc.scm and will just use it.
13:23:59 <andi5> LarstiQ: you compiled from the 2.2.4 tarball?
13:24:34 <andi5> i guess you can compile from the 2.2 branch or the upcoming 2.2.5 tarball (next weekend) as well, just to be a little bit safer
13:24:51 <LarstiQ> andi5: no, I installed the hardy package
13:24:56 <andi5> ah, ok
