05:26:28 <puck> sgorf: Yes, I do.
05:26:55 <puck> I have sub-accounts off my main cheque account and every fornight transfer money into each budgeting journal.
05:27:17 <puck> I have my SX transactions create 3 months in advance.
05:27:34 <puck> There are a number of possible enhancements that'd make this easier to use. :)

08:36:26 <sgorf> puck: That's sounds similar but not quite the same as I'm doing
08:36:44 <sgorf> I have a separate top-level account called Budgets that's always £0
08:37:37 <sgorf> Then under there I have an accounts Balance::Allocation, Balance::Expenditure and Funds::, the subaccounts of Funds matches the subaccounts of the Expenses toplevel
08:37:49 <sgorf> Then every time I add an expenses transaction I also add a transfer from Funds to Expenses
08:38:34 <sgorf> Sorry every time I add an expenses transaction I also add a transfer from Budgets::Funds::Whatever to Budgets::Expenditure
08:38:57 <sgorf> Then I top up various bits of Budgets::Funds from Budgets::Balance::Allocation every month and also every year
08:39:13 *** IanL has joined #gnucash
08:40:03 <sgorf> So the only manual process is that when I add a transaction in Expense (eg. debit an expense and credit my wallet) then I also have to add a separate matching transaction
08:40:13 <sgorf> I thought something like "shadow" accounts might work in Gnucash for this
08:41:20 <sgorf> So Budget::Funds could be a special account that "shadows" Expenses, so it would automatically mirror the structure of Expenses:: and automatically copy any transactions placed in there
08:42:07 *** localhos1 has quit IRC
08:43:21 <sgorf> The principle being that budgets are basically an imaginary future projection of what existing accounts are going to do, so it makes sense to use the standard accounts structure in gnucash to achieve it with some basic ties to the "real" accounts to make it easier

09:41:15 <freakynl> any report available to see monthly expenses (ie per month) kinda like the bargraph, but then textual (so more like the cash flow one)?
09:42:01 <freakynl> the expenses over time on with the graphs is very hard to see some accurate stuff and after 7 or 8 big ones it accumulates the rest into other
09:52:37 <warlord> There's no multi-table report like that.. You could probably take the P&L report and modify it to do what you want...
09:53:35 *** donfede has joined #gnucash
09:57:23 <warlord> Another option, freakynl: you could run a multi-column report with multiple P&L reports.
10:27:03 <freakynl> warlord: thx will look into that
10:28:15 <freakynl> found a bug btw i think. noticed in the options you can set the amount of items (by default 8) in the 'Expenses over Time' report. I set it to 24 (the max). Now I only have 2 months as I'm pretty new to gnu cash, but it seems the legend either overlaps the bars, or they aren't drawn then
10:28:40 <warlord> Could be.
10:28:41 <freakynl> with 24, the legend is 2 columns. I lowered it to a value so it's only 1 column, all is fine then
10:28:48 <warlord> File a bug report?
10:28:58 <freakynl> sure :)
