00:00:43 <andi5> which cancel text?
00:00:48 * andi5 goes to the logs
00:00:50 <renato> oops... sorry andi5... now I realized that the messages were sent to the channel..
00:01:07 <renato> the cancel, apply, ok, etc...
00:01:39 <andi5> well, gtk+ is right
00:03:14 <renato> cool... thanks for the tip... I'm preparing a diff with quite a few updates to the pt_BR translation... I'm also jumping into scheme so I can contribute with more things than just translation... ;-)
00:03:50 <andi5> better yet contact your localization team... i think mr leonardof is involved there
00:04:44 <renato> I wasn't aware of a team involved...
00:05:23 <andi5> see http://svn.gnome.org/viewvc/gtk%2B/branches/gtk-2-12/po/pt_BR.po?revision=19865&view=markup
00:06:17 <andi5> btw, i doubt something that central as "_Cancel" will be translated badly, but hey
00:07:18 <renato> Something is amiss here.... My gnucash shows some of those buttons in english...
00:07:22 <renato> hold on..
00:08:27 *** IanL has joined #gnucash
00:09:13 <renato> for instance.. If I change a transaction and try to close the account tab, I'm presented with a dialog with 3 buttons: "Discard Transaction", "Cancel" and "Save Transaction'. The three of them in english, even tought gnucash is running in pt_BR
00:09:57 <andi5> Cancel or _Cancel?
00:10:36 <renato> _Cancel (i.e. with the C underline, if that's what you meant)
00:10:47 <renato> (underlined, I mean)
00:10:49 <andi5> yes
00:11:54 <andi5> but the major texts are in brazilian portuguese?
00:12:01 <renato> hummmmm...
00:12:15 <renato> that's exactly what occurred to me now..
00:12:30 <renato> gnucash is all in portuguese,,, but the gnome desktop is in english...
00:12:58 <renato> is this happening due to my system default language (english) ??
00:13:04 <andi5> you are right, the translation of "discard transaction" is marked fuzzy (and probably incorrect)
00:13:37 <andi5> gnucash is just picking up locale environment variables, just like most other programs do as well
00:13:41 <renato> discard transaction, save transaction and quite a bunch of other things are being taken care of by me....
00:14:09 <andi5> then take a look at http://svn.gnucash.org/trac/browser/gnucash/branches/2.2/po/pt_BR.po and contact the last-translator or group
00:14:27 <renato> no... I'm setting LANG=pt_BR.ISO-8859-1
00:14:41 <renato> and gnucash seems to be picking it correctly...
00:14:43 <andi5> see also http://wiki.gnucash.org/wiki/Translation
00:15:02 <renato> all the translations specific to gnucash are being shown correctly..
00:15:04 <andi5> sure, that will set the default message text as pt_BR, unless you specify LC_MESSAGES
00:15:23 <renato> LC_MESSAGES ?? hold on....
00:15:42 * andi5 holds on
00:18:09 <renato> well... setting LANG=pt_BR.ISO-8859-1 and running 'locale' on the command line shows me that this setting is being "understood" for collate, numseric, etc, including lc_message
00:18:39 <renato> libgtk seems to be ignoring my LANG
00:20:12 <andi5> do you have a program called libgtk? :)
00:20:12 <renato> even setting LC_MESSAGES explicitly won't do the trick.. I wonder if this could be considered a bug in gnome....
00:20:23 <renato> duh ! :-)
00:20:25 <andi5> one moment...
00:20:37 <renato> I'm talking about the lib gnome uses...
00:20:38 <renato> :-)
00:20:53 <andi5> open a terminal, enter locale and check against the output of LANG=pt_BR.ISO-8859-1 locale
00:20:58 <andi5> do they differ?
00:21:53 <renato> sure they do... my default language is english...
00:22:01 <renato> :-)
00:22:23 <andi5> so what is the problem?
00:22:26 <renato> however I run gnucash, specifically, in portuguese
00:22:40 <andi5> ok, but the translation is not complete, as it seems
00:23:21 <renato> My problem is with the messages from gtk which stay in english... even tought the program was started with LANG in pt_BR
00:23:30 <renato> got the point ?
00:23:54 <andi5> no, because i think you still mean gnucash strings... that is why i pointed you to those two of the involved .po files
00:24:23 <andi5> there is only one language in a process...
00:24:30 <renato> sure !!!
00:25:30 <renato> and po/pt_BR.po has a translation for _Cancel, it isn't marked as fuzzy and it's still showing in english
00:25:31 <renato> :-)
00:25:38 <andi5> enter "gnucash --help" and see whether the gtk options are translated
00:27:02 <renato> well... gnucash --help shows up in portuguese (somethings in english, but mostly portuguese). However gnucash --help-gtk shows up in english only
00:29:20 <andi5> do you change the locale dir for gnucash somehow?
00:29:44 * andi5 is confused
00:32:11 <renato> and the strings in gnucash indeed show up in portuguese.. except for some still marked as fuzzy
00:32:23 <andi5> also, what does the file->open dialog look like?
00:33:10 <renato> well.. that's a strange question... it looks like a file open dialog...
00:33:14 <renato> hehehe... just kidding..
00:33:37 <renato> well.. it's Arquivo -> Abrir
00:33:47 <renato> (the portuguese version)
00:33:56 <andi5> and the strings _inside_ the dialog?
00:34:09 <renato> all in english
00:34:14 <renato> (except for the title)
00:34:22 <andi5> very weird
00:34:29 <renato> tell me about it...
00:34:30 <andi5> what distro?
00:34:31 <renato> :-)
00:34:35 <renato> ubuntu
00:34:37 <renato> 7.10
00:35:17 <andi5> i assume that 7.10 had a good pt_BR gtk+ translation?
00:35:29 <renato> if you're interested I can send you a screenshot
00:35:49 <renato> hummmm.... I'll have to research that...
00:35:56 <andi5> not yet... what about LANG=pt_... gedit?
00:36:03 <renato> hold on
00:36:29 <andi5> maybe you just need to install portuguese localization packages :)
00:37:10 <andi5> sudo apt-get install language-support-pt :)
00:37:21 <renato> oops..... I guess if that's the problem I'll just have to run and hide in a dark cave for a hundred years...
00:37:39 <andi5> :-D
00:37:42 <andi5> 150!
00:38:56 <andi5> btw, if you want english labels but pt currency and so on, just change LC_* variables, like LC_CURRENCY...
00:39:31 <renato> oops... language-support-pt wasn't installed really...
00:40:01 <renato> I guess I'll just have to begin looking for some confortable cave (is there such a thing ?)
00:40:29 <andi5> the cave is contributing back, whatever good it is :-)
00:41:22 <andi5> contact the gnucash pt_BR language team and kill those fuzzy strings
00:41:24 <renato> holly crap... installing language-support-pt brings quite a bunch of packages...
00:41:42 <renato> I'm already doing that...
00:41:47 <andi5> there are smaller ones, but hey... better you have them before forgetting it again ;-)
00:42:02 <renato> sure... :-)
00:42:45 <renato> strange... pt and pt-br are kind of related on these packages...
00:43:03 <renato> pt is for Portugal.. pt_BR is for Brazil...
00:43:21 <renato> I mean pt-pt is for portugal....
00:43:27 <andi5> brazil is not a language, right?
00:43:44 <renato> nope... portuguese is the language...
00:44:04 <andi5> it is not about locale-support or country-support, but language-support, so it is perfectly legal to package them that way
00:44:09 <renato> but they are different... brazilian portuguese and portuguese from Portugal
00:45:10 <andi5> yes, but i suppose there is a lot of stuff in /usr/share/locales/pt_BR/LC_MESSAGES now?
00:45:27 <renato> sure, sure....
00:45:50 <renato> and I'm seeing packages specific for both countries being installed..
00:45:57 <renato> I guess that's not such a big deal...
00:46:13 <renato> specially with HD prices sow low these days... ;-)
00:46:21 <andi5> ah, come on :)
00:46:49 <renato> :-)
00:47:18 <andi5> where do you come from? :)
00:47:36 <renato> I'm Brazilian, from Rio de Janeiro...
00:47:44 <andi5> i am filling my gnome panel world clock with different places :)
00:48:16 <renato> how many places you got so far ?
00:48:19 <andi5> 1.48 am already :)
00:48:22 <andi5> 3 ;-)
00:48:32 <renato> yet... 1:48
00:48:58 <andi5> puh... 6.48 am now... still not tired
00:49:00 <renato> I have to use all the time I get after my daugther sleeps to do my stuff..
00:49:15 <renato> 6:48 ???
00:49:39 <andi5> no, 49
00:50:06 <renato> he..
00:50:09 <renato> are you in germany ?
00:50:22 <andi5> actually, i wanted to complete some stuff, but somehow people distract me :)
00:50:25 <andi5> yep
00:50:41 <renato> people keep distract you ?
00:50:44 <renato> how do they ?
00:50:51 <renato> asking about localization ??
00:50:54 <renato> :-D
00:51:01 <andi5> they should all go to sleep ;-)
00:51:27 <andi5> fortunately, i rarely see asians here :)
00:53:00 <renato> well.. I guess I'll be going for now...
00:53:05 <renato> thanks a lot for your help...
00:53:12 <andi5> you are welcome
00:53:19 <andi5> remember to contact your team :-D
00:53:33 <renato> sure...

13:21:08 <renato> hello people..
13:22:48 <renato> ahn... it's so nice to come to this #... people are so warm and welcoming !!
13:22:50 <renato> :-)
13:30:31 <renato> fiddling around with pt_BR translations, I bumped across something "bizarre" on billterms.glade.. Lines 806-807 present the following:
13:30:43 <renato> <property name="items" translatable="yes">Days
13:30:46 <renato> Proximo</property>
13:31:17 <renato> something doesn't look right.... particularly the word Proximo in portuguese lost here... :-)
13:32:09 <renato> I guess some previous translator screwed this file... Am I right ?
13:35:07 <renato> .. and my struggle with the untranslatable buttons of apply, cancel, etc just keeps going...
13:35:08 <renato> :-)

13:37:03 <warlord> hi
13:37:08 <renato> thanks for your answer !!
13:37:17 <renato> (I read it almost 7 days later)
13:37:19 <warlord> you're welcome.
13:37:20 <renato> :-)
13:37:47 <renato> however I'm still struggling with those pesky untranslatable buttons...
13:37:49 <renato> :-)
13:38:44 <renato> I've installed the language packs for pt on ubuntu, but no go...
13:41:45 <renato> anyway... I'll send by the end of the day a diff quenching a bunch of fuzzies, and fixing some other translations in pt_BR..
13:45:31 <warlord> If there are standard gnome buttons that aren't translated that implies that the bare gnome translation is missing them. You'll need to talk to the gnome people.
13:47:52 <renato> They do look translated on gtk svn... I'll try to confirm that...
13:56:39 <warlord> But are you running gtk from svn? I doubt it.
14:04:10 <renato> no, I'm not... :-)
14:04:33 <renato> that's why I'll confirm later if my version is updated... :-)
14:04:58 <renato> on the other hand, running from svn would be... let's say.... FUN ! :-D

21:54:53 <sgorf> Hello...I have some questions about budgeting. I've read the wiki page on it, but I just can't cope with the limited functionality that is present at the moment and am using a separate set of accounts to do it instead. Does anyone else do it this way? I can think of how to add a few non-budget-specific features to gnucash to make budgeting this way much eaiser. Is budgeting being developed at all at the moment?
