02:15:20 <deus__> hi all, I would like to help on the gnucash project.... is it a good start to read the manual and test the screens and the proposed functionality before reading the code or should I start with the code first?
04:40:13 *** Demitar has joined #gnucash

05:52:47 <andi5> deus__: i do not know, whatever you like :) ... i suppose you know of the existence of the doxygen documentation generated from the code which can be found at http://svn.gnucash.org/docs/HEAD/
05:53:35 <andi5> if you have questions do not hesitate to ask them here or on gnucash-devel though :)

09:31:15 <Pupeno> Hello.
09:31:28 <Pupeno> Can I see all the transaction of the subaccounts in an account?
09:32:39 <andi5> i think there is such an entry in the context menu when right-clicking on an account on the account tree page
09:35:32 <Pupeno> andi5: I see... unfortunately, it doesn't show the balance... which makes it useless for my purpose.
09:35:52 *** _gunni_ has joined #gnucash
09:36:15 <Pupeno> Is there another way to keep three separate "bags" of money in the same account? I share an account with my wife, we have money that's mine, money that's her's and common.
09:36:36 <andi5> so a report would suffice as well? does not the transaction report show you all you want?
09:37:26 <Pupeno> andi5: no, the transaction separates each account as well.
09:37:36 *** Demitar has joined #gnucash
09:41:05 <andi5> what about the journal report?
09:41:24 *** warlord-afk is now known as warlord
09:41:31 <andi5> hi warlord
09:41:39 <andi5> finally someone knowledgable is here :-)
09:41:44 <warlord> uhoh
09:41:48 <warlord> (reading)
09:42:05 <warlord> Pupeno: what exactly are you trying to do?
09:42:40 <warlord> You have a single bank account with three virtual accounts and you want to.... see the total of the three?
09:44:17 <Pupeno> warlord: I can see the total, I want to see the total balance after each transaction (being that I moved money between the virtual accounts and out of them).
09:44:44 *** |gunni| has quit IRC
09:45:11 <warlord> there's no way to do that.
09:45:30 <Pupeno> :(
09:45:41 <Pupeno> If the open subaccounts had balance, that'd be it.
09:45:43 <warlord> you can get the "current" total but you can't get the instantaneous total via a transaction.
09:46:08 <warlord> Yeah, but it doesn't because the balance computation is done per-account.
09:46:21 <Pupeno> ok.
09:46:24 <Pupeno> Thanks.
09:46:26 *** Pupeno has left #gnucash
09:54:55 <warlord> umm.. you're welcome?
09:55:21 <warlord> hiya andi5. Have YOU heard anything about 2.2.4 and vista?
09:55:30 <andi5> hm... not really
09:55:47 <andi5> at least nothing specially bad like "is not supported at all"
09:58:34 <andi5> unfortunately there still a constant stream of new bug reports ala "does not start up" (maybe some experience interesting crashes), that i have not responded to yet, but i do not have the impression that gnucash does not work with vista at all.... well, i have not used vista myself yet, so i cannot test anything :)
10:00:42 <warlord> Hmm..
10:00:52 <warlord> i wonder if you or nathan should get a vista VM to test?
10:01:56 <andi5> well, i am not going to spend money for yet another windows operating system :-D
10:04:27 <warlord> I suspect we could spend gnucash tip-fund money for it..
10:07:08 <andi5> well, currently i have no strong desire to work on win32, as i am targetting aqbanking3 right now anyway... but if that is needed, i will not argue against it
10:11:20 <warlord> Wel just something to keep in mind.
10:11:26 <warlord> We missed the GSoC this year.
10:12:27 <andi5> well, nobody offered to be a mentor :)
10:12:38 <warlord> And nobody offered to administer it, either ;)
10:13:49 <warlord> one of these days I'll get a nice VM server and then we can just install an XP-VM and a Vista-VM and give access to you guys. ;)
10:14:34 <andi5> really? that sounds cool :-D
10:14:49 <warlord> But I dont know when that'll happen.
10:14:57 <andi5> ...
10:15:05 <warlord> depends on how well IHTFP does ;)
10:15:19 <andi5> well then... go work!
10:16:52 <warlord> :-P
10:17:05 <andi5> maybe we need you for a security audit here ;-)
10:17:23 <warlord> hhahahah

10:20:25 <andi5> oh, i see
10:20:46 <andi5> you mentioned to come to europe this summer, is that still true?
10:21:06 <warlord> IETF is in Dublin July/August. I dont know what else is going on.
10:21:30 <warlord> I need to figure out if they'll send me to Offenbach again, and then I can plan any holiday travel too.
10:21:44 <andi5> yep... keep us informed :)
10:21:56 <warlord> absolutely
10:32:21 <andi5> quick Q: any objections to branches/aqbanking3? (would land as initial commit in a few days, i guess)
10:32:54 <andi5> it would contain a new importer module "aqbanking" (aqbanking <= 2 -> hbci, aqbanking >= 3 -> aqbanking)
10:33:57 <andi5> not sure about aqbanking 2.5 yet ;-)
10:44:42 <warlord> go for it.
10:44:52 <andi5> thanks
10:45:04 <warlord> branches are cheap.
10:45:11 <andi5> sheep?
10:45:22 <andi5> let us copy them :)
10:45:33 <warlord> :-P
10:45:39 <andi5> bök

14:11:33 <foo> If I'm using the accruel accounting method, I report income when earned/incurred... so, I record checks when I write them, not when cashed... and because of that, my end of the year balance doesn't exactly need to line up if some checks weren't cashed yet, right?
