2008-03-03 GnuCash IRC logs

00:18:10 <nbinont> @tell andi5 I built with qt 4.3.4 (instead of 4.2.3) I haven't seen any problems, but I thought I'd better ask if you see any problems with this.
00:18:10 <gncbot> nbinont: The operation succeeded.
00:18:11 <gncbot> nbinont: Sent 6 hours and 18 minutes ago: <andi5> i will be back tomorrow morning (~05 utc), have fun :)
00:55:51 <nbinont> @tell andi5 The windows binary is up

01:24:10 <andi5> hi nbinont :-)
01:27:08 <nbinont> hi
01:27:26 <nbinont> feeling better this morning?
01:27:30 <andi5> i guess i will have to create a release first to get your package :-)
01:27:45 <andi5> let us say different ;-)
01:27:51 <nbinont> :(
01:29:23 <andi5> is it the qt update that made the package grow by 1mb+ again? :-)
01:32:29 <nbinont> I think so
01:32:45 <nbinont> http://www.ece.uwaterloo.ca/~ndpbucha/gnucash_builds/
01:39:39 <andi5> oh, now i understand, well... still downloading (did not see that i was using a really bad mirror again) from sf.net
01:44:35 <andi5> great.. it survived by 3 minutes stress teast :-)
01:44:48 <andi5> no obvious problems with qt, as it seems =)
01:47:06 <andi5> nbinont: i guess you are already quite tired... thanks for your work (again) :-D ... one question remains for me: what should we do with the md5 file in sf.net? shall it stay the same or enriched by the other two md5sums and renamed to gnucash-2.2.4.md5?
01:48:31 <nbinont> hmm...that would be great
01:48:41 <nbinont> (to have all 3 in one file)
01:49:08 <andi5> ok, will do that
01:50:15 <nbinont> got some lab work with a current mirror tomorrow...should be fun
01:50:34 <nbinont> ...except that I still have some prep work to do!
01:50:54 <andi5> well, then _have_ fun :)
01:52:31 <nbinont> thanks

02:16:21 <nbinont> @tell andi5 just for interest's sake, the new QT added on about 600KB, the new aqbanking/gnome packages added 400KB, and the two new translations added 200KB
02:16:21 <gncbot> nbinont: The operation succeeded.

02:17:36 <andi5> ah, interesting
02:17:55 <nbinont> :)
02:18:17 <andi5> maybe one should check whether it would help if the account templates were shipped in compressed form :)
02:20:35 <nbinont> maybe, though at the rate that internet speeds are increasing, it may not matter
02:22:45 <nbinont> everyone here has moved to 7Mbit connections and they're now offering 16Mbit

14:44:30 <erpo> I'm helping some friends digitize their financial data. The problem is that Quickbooks make me want to vomit and I'm quite comfortable with Gnucash, yet their part time accountant must have access to the data through quickbooks. How can I transfer data back and forth between Gnucash and Quickbooks?

17:16:54 <andi5> hiho :) ... i just wondered about bug 506788 and the redraw flag on gnome-utils/gnc-dense-cal.c:gdc_mark_remove ... there are situations where no mark is added, so i wondered whether gdc_model_removing_cb should have been called

17:26:18 <paolob> A question: why cannot I add an opening balance to a already created account with no txn?
17:26:21 <warlord> baalim: It should be just like setting any other Gnome Keyboard Shortcut.
17:27:09 <warlord> erpo: There's no way to export from Quickbooks. To get stuff INTO quickbooks from GnuCash you can use gnucash2qif to convert gnucash to QIF and then import the QIF into QB.
17:27:27 <andi5> iirc this dialog is not modal, so you could create a txn while it is up :) do we need that sort of dynamics?
17:27:57 <andi5> and creating a simple txn from the opening balances account should not be that difficult ;-)
17:28:02 <warlord> paolob: an opening balance *IS* a transaction.
17:28:23 <paolob> warlord, a txn like all others txn?
17:28:30 <andi5> i think so
17:29:13 <warlord> paolob: yep.. from Equity:Opening Balance to <this account>

21:25:44 <guillaume> If I buy something from a vendor-[to sell it afterwards] should I use my credit card account or use the accont payable[when creating the vendor invoice] and then process the vendor invoice with the credit card account?!
21:27:15 <warlord> Umm.. hmm.. "vendor" isn't really tied to a credit card. An Emp Exp Voucher can be a CC or Cash payment.. but I dont remember if that has a chargeback.
21:32:26 <guillaume> I'll would like to track how much I paid the item to get tax back and pay revenue tax....
21:32:58 <guillaume> i'm not shure how I should setup my accounts....
21:36:51 <warlord> i'm afraid I dont know.. Maybe you should ask an accountant in you locale?
21:37:31 <guillaume> yea I think that's the solution
21:38:47 <guillaume> I made my first vendor invoice and used my credit card account and the total was not the "real" total
21:39:06 <warlord> ummmm.....
21:39:09 <guillaume> it was the total to the vendor invoice before tax
21:39:26 <guillaume> lollll I would love my credit provider do that..
21:41:03 <guillaume> --the tax account had the tax of that invoice -btw
21:41:28 <warlord> i still have no idea...
