00:37:20 <dragonbyte> anyone here braved the gnucash using Quartz on OSX?
00:51:32 <warlord> not I
01:14:48 *** dbreiser has joined #gnucash
01:16:30 <dbreiser> dragonbyte: what exactly do you want to know about gnucash on a mac?
01:17:52 <warlord> dbreiser: I think he wanted to know about GTK-Quartz
01:18:14 <dbreiser> ah. ok. not me either
01:19:16 <dbreiser> too much work. (though for the time I now spend grunging around in other fink packages, maybe it wouldn't be a lot more)
01:20:11 <dbreiser> goodnight
01:20:14 <warlord> good night.

04:45:46 <def_> Are there any plans for resolving the slib-3.1.5 issues with gnucash? Momentarily, it won't run with anything greater than slib-3.1.4-r4, due to missing mklibcat... Is this resolvable in gc, or is the resolution to not update slib?

10:20:01 <dragonbyte> thank you
10:22:18 <warlord> dragonbyte: last I heard it WILL build, but....
10:22:56 <dragonbyte> but?
10:27:32 *** |McLANE| has joined #gnucash
10:28:06 <warlord> but I heard it was buggy and didn't look significantly different than the X version.

12:22:18 <Semmi> hello
12:22:28 <Semmi> i have a problem
12:23:26 <Semmi> i want to know how i can print the journal of a special account
12:24:12 <Semmi> is this possible? or can i export the journal to another program, like excel?
12:36:49 *** leavengood has joined #gnucash
12:46:51 <leavengood> if over the course of time several checking accounts have been created, should those all be put into one "Checking Account" in GnuCash or should they each get their own account?
12:47:26 <leavengood> i.e. what is the recommended best practice for something like that
12:48:21 <leavengood> oh and only one is used at a time, in other words the old one is closed when the new one is created
12:48:38 <leavengood> with money deposited from one to the other
12:50:46 *** cortana has quit IRC
12:51:06 <dragonbyte> personally I create new ones and hide empty ones
12:51:25 <dragonbyte> but I am still working if I want to try and start breaking out stuff to clean up over time
12:52:15 <dragonbyte> I have Assets -> Checking & Savings - > 2 checking and 3 savings accounts with 1 of the savings 0/closed/hidden
12:52:23 *** Semmi has quit IRC
12:52:32 <leavengood> OK
12:53:03 <leavengood> that makes sense
12:53:50 <leavengood> I'm am retroactively sorting out the finances for a small organization which had several checking accounts and I was trying to keep it simple
12:54:11 <leavengood> but I think it makes things easier to track to have the seperate GnuCash accounts
12:54:45 <dragonbyte> the big thing is that money is moving from those accounts to something like bills
12:54:53 <dragonbyte> that bills account is still active even if the other checking accounts are not
12:55:06 <leavengood> right
12:55:12 <dragonbyte> but if there is some kind of dispute or nonsense later you will have the records to know which bank to talk to
12:55:21 <dragonbyte> but I'm paranoid like that
12:55:34 <leavengood> hehe
12:55:59 <leavengood> do you just do personal finances with GnuCash or business finances too?
12:56:12 <dragonbyte> personal
12:56:40 <leavengood> OK

16:21:22 <[Cadet]> Anybody have a yes/no answer if gnucash works with datafiles mounted over sshfs? I've been searching the web and see others who have had problems with it but no solutions. The original file was located on an nfs share but I've also tried placing it elsewhere. Cannot obtain lock, open it anyway and when I write the file it is deleted.
16:25:32 <[Cadet]> I finally talked my wife into moving to gnucash from quickbooks and it works for her locally via the NFS mount while she is in linux but from what I have been reading we'll run into the same issue when she goes to her windows install and tries accessing the datafile from the smb share right?
