But the interest isn't something I'm actually spending money on, so its counterbalance shouldn't be in expenses. Where should it go?

13:31:08 <BF> Hi - [gnucash 2.2.1, ubuntu 7.1] i need some help to get currency exchange working. i followed the instructions in the tutorial, and no luck so far, either with manual or automatic. stock prices do auto-update from yahoo, though. also, in the main accounts summary screen, i dont have the second column of 'home currency' value as shown in the tutorial screenshot.
