00:19:29 *** IdeAlEss has joined #gnucash
00:20:40 <IdeAlEss> Just upgraded to version 2.2.1 on gentoo. It runs fine, but crashes when loading my old (2.0.5) file. Trace back is as follows:
00:20:47 <IdeAlEss> /usr/share/gnucash/scm/options.scm:1467:4: Wrong type to apply: #f
00:21:00 <jsled> IdeAlEss: hold.
00:23:50 <jsled> Hmm... maybe not the bug I was thinking of; can you pastebin a fuller error, please?
00:24:55 <IdeAlEss> sure
00:25:08 <jsled> (http://pastebin.ca/ or whereever)
00:26:22 <IdeAlEss> http://www.pastebin.org/10870
00:26:38 <IdeAlEss> Ah, I always forget the .ca is out there.
00:27:53 <jsled> Wait, it thinks "quote" is #f ‽
00:27:57 <jsled> what version of guile?
00:28:07 <jsled> (and while we're at it, slib?)
00:29:13 <IdeAlEss> guile is 1.8.2
00:29:58 <IdeAlEss> slib is 3.1.1-r1

09:27:56 <andrewsw> hiya. I jus tput up 16620, but messed up my log. :(

09:28:28 <andi5> is the patch data correct?
09:28:42 <andrewsw> yep.
09:28:58 <andrewsw> it just shows my local mirror changes
09:29:10 <andrewsw> which link to really old revisions in trac
09:29:13 <andi5> are you using git-svn?
09:29:18 <andi5> or is this svk?
09:29:23 <andrewsw> no I switched to svk. couldn't grok git-svn.
09:29:32 <andi5> hehe.. i did it the other way around
09:29:37 <andrewsw> heh heh
09:30:14 <andi5> i think derek is still using svk... i tried to forget it as fast as possible :)
09:30:57 <andrewsw> I've not used distributed VCS before so it's definitely a learning process.
09:31:02 <andi5> what would a correct log look like? everything minus line 1 and 3?
09:31:36 <andrewsw> yep
09:31:36 <andi5> i suppose you tried to commit 2 revisions?
09:31:38 <andrewsw> I had two local revisions that got bundled into one commit to svn.g.o
09:31:46 <andi5> btw, i would rather like to help you with git-svn ;-)
09:32:13 <andrewsw> I was waiting for it to prompt me to edit the log and it didn't...
09:32:27 <andrewsw> I"m game, though not right now. I've got to wake the kids up in about three minutes.
09:32:44 <andi5> no problem
09:33:17 <andrewsw> git-svn worked for me until I started trying to propogate changes back to my mirror/clone then it got ugly.
09:33:18 <andi5> from my point of view the existing commit can stay as it is, as long as it describes what the patch does (have not yet looked at it)
09:33:53 <andrewsw> It does. It's the same patch that's been sitting on -devel for a few days. I wanted to get it up so I could start fixing it more.
09:34:14 <andrewsw> anyway, so long as the log is more or less okay. bleh.
09:34:16 <andi5> andrewsw: yep, and it worked :)
09:34:34 <andrewsw> thanks andi5 and goodnight/morning

13:20:21 *** andrewsw-afk is now known as andrewsw
13:20:39 <andrewsw> lenscape: there is no *currently* supported db backend.
13:21:21 <andrewsw> There is code for postgres backend (I think) but its very old and I think we'd all be shocked if it worked.
13:22:21 <andrewsw> and there is a branch to implement a gda based backend, but that's not usable, yet.

13:50:01 <lenscape> oh. That's a complete show stopper than
13:50:13 <lenscape> so where does it store its data?
13:51:19 <andi5> the only currently working backend is file-based
13:54:29 <lenscape> andi5: what sort of format?
13:54:43 <andi5> (gzipped-) xml files
13:55:00 <lenscape> hmm
13:55:04 <lenscape> no use to me
13:55:21 <andi5> well..
13:55:35 <lenscape> xml is not a suitable format for data storage. It's fine for data exchange.
13:55:43 <lenscape> it's unscalable
13:55:57 <andi5> thanks for telling us... i doubt anyone knew it ;-)
13:56:00 <lenscape> and you can't share it
13:56:21 <lenscape> well, I'm sure you knew
13:56:50 <andi5> that is what the gda-dev branch is for, but development is going slow there :(
13:56:59 <lenscape> I'm just surprised at how commonly XML is used for storage.
13:57:23 <lenscape> It's ok for documents but unsuitable for record data
13:57:53 <lenscape> anyway - thanks for tolerating my rabbit. I'm sure you have better things to do. Cheers.
13:58:07 <andi5> well...

18:04:53 <leonardof> I need some help with importing ofx, please. I can successfully specify the account the ofx file refers to. When I import it, all the transactions are unbalanced, because I didn't tye them yet. Then i try to balance them, specifying where the money went to or from, but I receive this error message: "This transaction is already being edited in another entry. Please, finish the other edition first." How do I balance transactions from an imported OFX?

20:13:44 <warlord> andi5: I think autogen needs it.
20:14:04 <andi5> which part of it?
20:15:11 <andi5> i doubt something really needs a ChangeLog and a Makefile.am, but i am unsure, will test

20:18:18 <warlord> I think aclocal does.
20:18:25 <jcreigh> http://svn.gnucash.org/docs/guide/cbook-reconacct1.html talks about adjusting the balance on a cash account if it gets out of sync but doesn't say how to do it, only "Adjusting balances is covered in the next section.". Except that I couldn't find anything on the next page that seemed to be related to that.
20:19:10 <jcreigh> what's the recommended way to fudge the balance on an account?
20:19:29 <andi5> well, we configured aclocal to look into macros/ and m4/ .... aclocal may bark if that dir is not there, so i removed the instruction from the aclocal flag and gnucash seems to build just fine, even without recreating m4/
20:19:58 <warlord> jcreigh: I just add a a txn to Expenses:Miscellaneous
20:20:32 <warlord> Maybe it's not needed.

22:19:54 <IdeAlEss> Gnucash crashes when loading my old file. I think it is when one of the reports is generated. The back trace is posted at http://www.pastebin.ca/809659
22:21:48 *** tim_abell_ has quit IRC
22:22:59 <andi5> IdeAlEss: i think there have been reports about that recently, ... you might want to take a look at ~/.gnucash/books/$yourfile and remove single sections describing open reports... i guess some of them is reponsible for the crash (a bug nontheless and someone should take a look at it ;-))
22:23:45 <IdeAlEss> okay, I wasn't sure where the reports were stored. I just new they were saved with the file somehow.
