06:53:15 <johnf> say I did soemthing dump and applied a payment to the wrong invoice and then reconciled it. Is there an easy way out?
06:53:31 <johnf> I tried deleting the payment and reappliing it but now I can't reconcile that entry
06:53:43 <johnf> I can change its status from n -> c but not y

07:03:46 <Elod> hi there
07:04:20 <Elod> i've messed up with the views, and now, when i open my data file, my window is empty. how can i get it back?
07:30:33 <cortilap> there's some menu item to show the accounts pane
07:31:04 <cortilap> or you can remove ~/.gnucash/books/gnucash
07:33:57 <Elod> ok thanks
07:35:05 <Elod> can i hide some accounts from the main view?
07:35:19 <Elod> i'd like expenses to be hided by default for example
07:35:33 <Elod> (or, how can i create a custom view with only the accounts i want)
07:39:14 <cortilap> not sure if that's possible, perhaps someone else can commit
07:39:16 <cortilap> *comment
07:39:36 <cortilap> that might be a better question for the mailing list, or you can wait until evening in europe which is when there is more activity here
07:39:47 <Elod> ok thanks
07:40:09 <Elod> it's because i find the view a little confusing. i'm a former quicken user :)
07:41:09 <cortilap> personally, i have all my expense accounts under a placeholder account, which i collapse
07:41:55 <Elod> interesting.
07:43:16 <Elod> yes nice idea. thanks.
07:43:53 <Elod> where can i see the next upcoming scheduled transactions? also,is there a balance estimator, or something like that?

08:51:58 <jsled> cortilap: note that ~/.gnucash/books/gnucash is only relevant if the user's datafile is named exactly "gnucash". Also, removing it wholesale is probably not a good idea.
08:52:40 <cortilap> oh, ok
08:52:46 <jsled> The better answer in this case is just File > New > New Accounts Page
08:53:02 <jsled> Ah, as you did say.
09:04:13 *** IanL has joined #gnucash
09:04:54 <cortilap> i'll try to remember where that is in the menus :)
09:05:14 <cortilap> would it be sensible to prevent the accounts page from being closed in the first place?
09:05:36 <cortilap> i've never wanted to actually close it, and when i did close it once by accident it took me a while to get it back (in fact i blew away my books file)
09:23:32 <jsled> We do try; here's the scenario: have window A with Accounts Page, registers, reports, &c. Open Window B with only register/reports. Close window A.
09:23:44 <jsled> Then close the registers/reports in window B.
09:24:08 <jsled> Of course, when window A closes, we could query the other windows to make sure that at least one has an Accounts tab, and dialog with the user about it if there's more than one.

09:31:42 <chris> Or never let window A close.

10:22:05 <warlord> Perhaps we should just keep a count on the number of account pages that exist and never let that count go to 0.

12:54:10 <bkaney> Anyone around to answer a quick question about LNK and LCK files?
12:54:22 <jsled> don't meta-ask; just ask.
12:54:52 *** twunder has quit IRC
12:55:35 <warlord> bkaney: they are Lock files to keep you from accidentally opening the same datafile twice.
12:55:36 *** twunder has joined #gnucash
12:56:28 <bkaney> I have gnucash on a shared directory. Permissions look good. Upon trying to open the database file, users can successfully create LCK and LNK files. But we still get "Could not Obtain the Lock for ...", open anyway get "Read Only" message.
12:57:02 <warlord> How is it shared?
12:57:18 <warlord> If you say "samba" I'm going to laugh at you.
12:57:28 <bkaney> We are using a samba mount.
12:57:29 <jsled> why?
12:57:32 <bkaney> linux all around
12:57:35 <warlord> jsled: can you op gncbot
12:57:43 <jsled> warlord: why would you laugh at samba?
12:57:50 *** jsled sets mode: +o gncbot
12:57:52 <warlord> @op
12:57:53 *** gncbot sets mode: +o warlord
12:58:29 <warlord> bkaney: if it's linux all around, why are you using samba instead of NFS?
12:58:42 <warlord> jsled: because SAMBA has very different semantics, and "permissions" don't mean anything.
12:59:00 <warlord> (and it's a known issue that gnucash has issues on samba shares).
12:59:28 <bkaney> Ah, okay. (because there are a few machines around that are windows. The machine is a general file server). Okay, we will try connecting not with samba.
13:01:31 <warlord> There was some debugging done a while ago, but very few people use that configuration, and none of the devs do.. Also, as I said, permissions in samba are very weird.
13:01:50 <warlord> The error implies that it can't perform a particular test.. I think it's access(), but I dont recall.
13:02:16 <jsled> bkaney: it's less likely but possible that its somehow crashing on exit, before it gets a chance to cleanup the files.
13:05:01 <bkaney> Okay, I see that my issue is characterized by bug 352491 (http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=352491).
13:08:52 <bkaney> Anyone know if sshfs works?
13:09:12 <jsled> I don't recall seeing evidence either way.

16:29:01 <andrewsw> I'm using xmonad 0.4 (nomeata here?) and gnucash only every gets the stock "X" cursor.
