11:31:49 <lianto> hello, i need help. i am trying to design an inventory system for gnucash. i want to use lots to be able to count cost of goods sold.
11:32:21 <lianto> to do that, i want to save lots for an inventory item in that item structure
11:34:14 <lianto> but lots also are saved in account structures. i am confused whether it will be ok if i have
11:34:15 <warlord> Keep in mind that you might have multiple lots for a particular inventory item.
11:34:32 <lianto> yes
11:34:38 <warlord> So, you'd need to cache a list of lots.
11:34:57 <lianto> yes, thats what i think should be done
11:35:09 <warlord> I
11:36:01 <lianto> the problem is i am confused whether i can cached the list of lots while accounts also cached those lots
11:36:10 <warlord> Sure, why not?
11:36:31 <warlord> Splits are referenced by Transactions but also referenced by Accounts.
11:36:52 <lianto> ah yes
11:37:04 <warlord> I see no problem in referencing a Lot from an Inventory Item as well as an Account... And a Split..
11:37:11 <warlord> (and an Invoice, for that matter)
11:38:44 <lianto> you mean invoice also save references to splits?
11:39:02 <warlord> No, Invoice saves a reference to a Transaction and to a Lot.
11:39:37 <warlord> (not a Split)
11:39:57 <warlord> You might consider trying to re-use (or extend) a GncEntry ...
11:40:21 <warlord> (or some other existing data object)
11:40:30 <warlord> before you go off and write a new one.
11:40:41 <warlord> IF you can re-use, it could save a lot of work.
11:41:06 <lianto> yes, as far as i could, i dont want to change the main code
11:42:10 <lianto> one more problem, the lot struct only have pointer to Account
11:42:54 <lianto> i feel when i save a list of lots, it would be better if the lots also know which inventory item its part of
11:43:50 <lianto> is there any way i can do that? (without changing the gnclot code)
11:46:15 <warlord> Save the GUID pointer in the Lot's KVP. See how I do it for Invoices.
11:46:27 <warlord> (also, you may still need to make changes to existing code, so don't be afraid of that)
11:50:23 <lianto> ok
11:51:04 <warlord> Anyways, gotta logout. I'll be back online in about 45-60 minutes.

15:38:57 <amessina> hello all. i'm relatively new to gnucash in that i now have all my accounts transferred over from quicken!
15:40:51 <amessina> i have a question regarding chase bank and online ofx connections: i have successfully set up the checking, savings and credit card account i have there. i can get transactions from my checking and credit card accounts, but the ofx connection says that my savings account doesn't exist when i try to download transactions or get a balance, even though it is downloaded in the account list during configuration. any pointers?

15:47:08 <warlord> amessina: if dbr were here he might be able to answer. he seems to be the resident ofx-dc guru. you might try asking on the -user list.
15:47:21 <amessina> thanks, warlord.

16:48:34 <kentling> For those searching logs: apparently getting out of the wizard altogether and restarting it gives you a prompt again.

23:30:29 <Gokee2> Is there any type of quick start guide to gnucash?
23:37:44 <Gokee2> Also I seem to be having problems with the internal help. It says "Could not Load Section The section ?chapter_loans? does not exist in this document. If you were directed to this section from a Help button in an application, please report this to the maintainers of that application." I get this message for almost every section, also I see the html instead of a nice formatted document.
23:46:38 <Gokee2> Hmm also where does it store stuff? I deleted .gnucash but it still thinks I should have a set of account I first opened it with in my first test
23:47:56 <Gokee2> Ah I see .gconfig... Looks like this is really geared toward gnome
23:48:13 <Gokee2> I got rid of .gconfig and it STILL remembers
