08:09:54 <Rolf> I am trying to compile gnucash on ubuntu edgy (SVN). While it works fine on one of my machines, I have trouble on my main machine.
08:10:35 <Rolf> The output of ./autogen.sh looks like http://rafb.net/p/11Tv4f48.html
08:10:38 <Rolf> Any ideas?

13:29:24 <xrg> Hi people!
13:29:34 <xrg> Remember my Q. about the business reports?
13:34:45 <xrg> any devs online?
13:36:05 <jsled> xrg: what was the question?
13:36:30 <xrg> OK, the point is that the account selection combo doesn't work in business reports..
13:36:58 <jsled> did you file a bug?
13:37:00 <xrg> So, this lang (scheme or whatever) is sth I don't understand, nor do I know its internals.
13:37:14 <xrg> But I think I have a theory about the "bug"..
13:37:54 <xrg> It should be in owner-report.scm:335, 359 ...
13:38:01 <xrg> Where this combo is defined.
13:38:32 <xrg> Now, I use greek, which has a different charset. It seems that this combo implementation cannot accept strings with non-latin chars inside.
13:38:39 <xrg> (my account names are in greek)
13:39:39 <jsled> how does the problem manifest?
13:39:41 <xrg> I can also see "WARN <Gtk> Invalid input string" and "
13:39:41 <xrg> WARN <GLib-GObject> gsignal.c:1669: signal `changed' is invalid for instance `0
13:39:41 <xrg> x8e22358'
13:39:47 <xrg> in the trace.
13:39:51 <jsled> ah.
13:40:10 <xrg> Can you make anything out of those?
13:40:23 *** casey has joined #gnucash
13:40:54 <jsled> Not exactly, though the "invalid input string" does sound suspicious.
13:42:17 <xrg> For one, these accounts I use come from an earlier version, where unicode was b0rken. I did convert the whole file with 'recode' and migrated my data a few years ago.
13:43:12 <xrg> w8, that is confusing: the business accounts *did* work a few versions ago. I cannot remember when..
13:47:42 <xrg> So, it's a regression. I use Mandriva cooker 2008, and tried to upgrade any lib that had to do with gnucash.
13:48:45 *** casey_ has quit IRC
13:50:24 <jsled> Hmmm. Did you upgrade from gnucash 1.8 -> 2.0?
13:51:32 <xrg> No, that shouldn't confuse you: I have been upgrading the whole time and 2.x worked for me up to a few versions ago.
13:52:00 <xrg> 1.8 wouldn't display the reports at all, as far as I remember.
13:52:02 <jsled> "a few versions ago" ... like 2.0.1 worked, but 2.0.5 didn't? What version are you running now?
13:52:18 <xrg> 2.2.1
13:52:26 <xrg> I think 2.1.x worked
13:54:07 <xrg> Hmm. I think I still have a 2007.1 box, let my try it's version.. ;)
14:00:21 *** twunder has joined #gnucash
14:04:50 *** twunder has quit IRC
14:08:05 <xrg> OK, installed: 2.0.5 works..
14:08:25 <jsled> Interesting.
14:09:27 <xrg> It's also interesting that in 2.0.5 the combo is not editable, while in 2.2.1 is.
14:09:52 <xrg> I guess it can also have to do with the underlying libs (like glib..)
14:10:27 <xrg> (that's why I don't file a bug report yet.)
14:14:35 <xrg> Question: in, say, 'Process payment' is the dialog created by scheme or just glade technology?

15:58:20 <Rolf> jsled: I read your mail.
15:58:22 <Rolf> Thank you.
15:58:28 <Rolf> I'll be there in a minute
16:04:19 <Rolf> jsled: Is it possible to reuse a previously checked out svn tree?
16:04:30 <Rolf> I am on a fairly expensive internet connection right now
16:05:24 <jsled> Rolf: take a look at `svn switch`. If you're changing from http:// to svn+ssh://, you'll need --relocate, I think.
16:05:35 <Rolf> OK, thanks
16:10:46 <Rolf> jsled: It looks the switch command worked
16:10:51 <Rolf> Let's see if I can commit
16:13:33 <Rolf> jsled: Any customary format for the commit message?
16:14:15 <jsled> sane. :) It should be as concise as possible, I think, without being vague, misleading, &c.
16:14:44 <jsled> You can get a sense of what we usually say at <http://svn.gnucash.org/trac/timeline>
16:15:11 <jsled> If there's a bug related, it's customary to say {{{Bug#<...>: <change description>}}}
16:15:17 <Rolf> jsled: I was asking because in another project where I have RW, there is a light-weight policy what commit messages should look like
16:15:28 <Rolf> BTW, commit failed.
16:15:31 <Rolf> http://rafb.net/p/o7wEdN15.html
16:16:34 <jsled> whoops. Fixed.
16:16:37 <Rolf> jsled: Looks like the regexp is missing a "gnucash"
16:16:43 <Rolf> OK, I'll retry
16:17:38 <Rolf> jsled: http://svn.gnucash.org/trac/changeset/16488
16:17:41 <Rolf> :-D
16:17:59 <jsled> woo hoo! :)
16:22:27 <Rolf> And the next one
16:22:32 <Rolf> fixing one bug.
16:24:08 <Rolf> jsled: from http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=432235#c16
16:24:14 <Rolf> Is it possible to search for an account number?
16:24:22 <Rolf> I think you guys call it an account code
16:24:39 <Rolf> It looks like this is what it is called in the XML source
16:26:23 <jsled> Well, it can be displayed in the account tree. And I think the GtkTreeview supports searching over anything it's displaying.
16:26:35 <jsled> I'm not sure if the Edit > Find... dialog will search over that field.
16:27:07 <jsled> I'm not sure what you mean by "search for", exactly.
16:28:36 <jsled> Hmm. Strange. I guess the tree view is configured somehow with respect to what text is searchable.
16:29:00 <jsled> Presumably it would be "easy" to add account code to that configuration, but it looks like it's *not* searchable at the moment.
16:29:50 <jsled> Of course, if the tree containing the searched string is collpased, it doesn't, like, expand and jump to that item.
16:29:59 <jsled> Which might actaully be useful.
16:30:46 <Rolf> yes, that would be very useful
16:30:58 <Rolf> In german business accounting, these numbers are standardized.
16:31:09 <Rolf> A german accountant will look for that number
16:31:21 <Rolf> They will usually book from account 1234 to 5678
16:31:45 <Rolf> Not blah:blub:whatever:something:account to somewhere else.

20:05:29 <Clark> hi
20:05:44 <Clark> i have a question regarding gnucash and windows vista
20:06:05 <Clark> everytime i try to create a new file, the program freezes
20:06:20 <Clark> im using windows vista ultimate x86
20:06:31 <Clark> and gnucash 2.2.1
20:06:46 <Clark> can anyone help me, please?
20:09:17 <Clark> and the program is terrybly slow
20:10:38 <jsled> Clark: I'm not a windows user/dev, so my knowledge is limited. <http://wiki.gnucash.org/wiki/Windows#Known_issues> might be a good starting point to see about others' experiences.
20:10:45 <jsled> But this problem is not uncommon. :(
20:12:28 <Clark> sadly...theres still not a solution, at least, at the moment
20:14:52 <Clark> well..but im expecting a new version....2.2.1 fixes a few in comparisson of 2.2.0
20:15:23 <Clark> thanks a lot for your response
20:15:48 <Clark> see ya and congrats for your app, its starting in the windows world!
