05:24:06 <Peak> hi there
05:24:21 <Peak> is gnuCash able to handle a stock?
05:34:50 <Sathamoth> define "handle" :)
05:34:59 <Sathamoth> you can track your investments, including stocks, yes
05:36:27 <Sathamoth> Peak: read http://svn.gnucash.org/docs/guide/chapter8.html for information about investment accout setup
05:51:02 <Peak> Sathamoth: handle means, i have a stock of different articles. a customer buys a couple of them and i would like to make an invoice for this. further the stock ammount shoud be actualized automatically.
05:51:05 <Peak> thx. for the link.
05:51:12 <Peak> i'll check this.

06:07:20 <ectospasm> I've got a minor issue that's been bugging me for a while, but I don't know how to search for it. In my general ledger, the Description column is far too wide, and I can't seem to resize it. Moving the left edge of the Transfer column doesn't seem to work well...

09:03:34 <warlord> ectospasm: resize your other columns bigger first.
09:03:52 <warlord> The description column will always resize itself to make sure you fill the window.
09:04:04 <warlord> So.. you can't resize it smaller until the rest of the columns are larger than the window.
09:08:17 <warlord> Sathamoth: FYI, Peak was asking about "Inventory", which GnuCash does NOT really do.
09:09:56 <twunder> speaking of resizing... I had an issue recently with resizing the last column of a stock... couldn't seem to get it to resize at all. I'm pretty sure it was with 2.2.0. (just an anectdote, don't really have time to see if it's really a bug, or user error)

11:21:25 <warlord> Sathamoth: yes, i know. it was the later context addition that changed it from "Stock" to "Inventory"..
11:21:32 <warlord> I suspect he/she was a non-native speaker.

19:05:03 <bren> hey all, has anyone seen GnuCash 2.2.0 enter a description of "Aruban Florin" in a variety of description fields?
19:06:01 <jsled> hmm? Like, randomly?
19:06:09 <jsled> Does that string mean anything to you?
19:06:35 <bren> yeah. randomly. String means nothing, other than it's a denomination of some type (which I'm not using)
19:07:31 <jsled> Huh. No, I've never heard that. In what description fields does it appear? Under what circumstances?
19:08:27 <bren> it shows in the number and description fields of any new accounts or accounts that I touch
19:09:22 <jsled> So, step by step. You open a register. Click on an existing transaction. Suddenly, the description is changed?
19:09:55 <bren> Yeah, for example. I want to create a new retirement account...
19:10:25 <bren> rt. click on retirement, choose new account from the pop up menu
19:11:14 <bren> get the account info field up, and the following fields have "Aruban Florin" as their descriptions...
19:11:33 <bren> Account Name, Account Code and Description
19:12:30 <bren> BTW: this copy of GnuCash was built from r16304:16306 on 2007-07-24
19:13:24 <jsled> What's the version number?
19:13:44 <jsled> Oh, you said, 2.2.0.
19:13:56 <jsled> That's really weird. What version of GTK? What OS/distro?
19:14:01 <jsled> (bias)
19:14:23 <bren> Mac OS 10.4.10
19:16:12 <bren> installed via MacPorts
19:18:21 <bren> not sure where/if I'd find the GTK version
19:19:05 <jsled> hmm. somewhere, somehow, macports should let you query installed packages.
19:19:13 <bren> lemme check...
19:20:11 <jsled> Or, from a terminal, `pkg-config --modversion gtk+-2.0` should do the trick.
19:20:26 <jsled> But that's a rather indirect way of doing it, that might not even work.
19:20:51 <jsled> I'm not sure what to say. You might want to contact the macports maintainer. Either via gnucash-user or directly.
19:21:06 <jsled> I've never heard or triaged a bug anything like that in the last few years; it's really odd.
19:21:15 <jsled> Does it happen in any other apps?
19:21:33 <jsled> Did you change anything recently? Did it used to (not) happen?
19:22:52 <bren> sorry. Was off in terminal land...
19:23:14 <bren> no this hasn't happened before. I'm coming back to GnuCash after a hiatus away with that god awful Intuit product...
19:24:11 <bren> pkg-config --modversion gtk+-2.0 comes back with 2.10.13
19:24:45 <bren> doesn't happen in any other apps, but I'm really only using MacPorts for the purposes of getting to GnuCash
19:24:47 <jsled> Same as I have.
19:24:52 <jsled> (the gtk version)
19:25:25 <bren> suppose I could recompile...
19:26:10 <jsled> could always try. But it's unclear what that would change.
19:26:31 <jsled> You might try building 2.0.5, and seeing if the problem exists there.
19:26:40 <bren> yeah, well it's not killing me. Just thought it was odd behavior.
19:26:48 <jsled> Oh totally.
19:26:53 <bren> Thanks jsled I'll give 2.0.5 a try..

21:07:35 <blahdeblah> warlord: re: my question about invoice payments a couple of days ago, what determines whether an invoice is marked as paid? Is it the presence of a transaction with type payment that matches the amount of the invoice?
21:07:35 <gncbot> blahdeblah: Sent 3 days, 9 hours, and 28 minutes ago: <warlord> http://lists.gnucash.org/logs/2007-07-23.html#T20:44:42
21:08:21 <warlord> blahdeblah: the LOT needs to have a balance of zero. You can see the lot in the Lot Viewer.
21:08:52 <blahdeblah> Where's that? I've never heard of the Lot Viewer.
21:09:02 <blahdeblah> BTW, the problem with the invoice was that i originally posted it with the wrong date.
21:12:12 <warlord> As I said last time, if you read the logs I pointed you at, reposting right away without other changes should return the invoice to the same paid status, unless you have other unpaid invoices for the same customer.
21:13:55 <warlord> The Lot Viewer is IIRC under the Actions or View menu.. I dont recall.
21:14:04 <warlord> (it was disabled in 2.0.x)
21:14:50 <warlord> anyways, gotta run.
21:14:51 *** warlord is now known as warlord-afk
21:21:43 <blahdeblah> warlord-afk: I read the logs - the problem in my case is that there were other unpaid invoices for the same customer. ;-)

22:35:28 <nDuff> The gnucash 2.2.0 win32 binary is leaving a multi-gigabyte gnucash.trace file. While gnucash appears to work perfectly, it's eating up all available disk space and causing other programs to crash! Is there a way to reduce the log's verbosity?
