07:56:32 <administrator> Can somebody please tell me how can i change the SCU from 1/100 to 1/20.
07:56:32 <gncbot> administrator: Sent 4 days, 15 hours, and 53 minutes ago: <warlord> the SCU is in the Currency Definition which is compiled into the application and then (in some cases) copied into your datafile. There's no UI method to change it.
07:56:34 <administrator> I have allready checked the wiki, the Faq and the Docs but i haven't found something about the SCU.
07:56:58 <administrator> Woooooowww.
07:57:00 <administrator> Thats a fast answer !

08:05:48 <administrator> Ok. i have just startes a search in the gnucash source folder for the text field "scu".
08:05:50 <administrator> At the moment i am searching for the right file in the more than 100 results.
08:05:52 <administrator> Does anybody know the right file where the "SCU" constant variable is defined ?
08:13:46 <administrator> In the bussiness account plan that i have selected at the beginning for my Company i have found a line with the following text
08:13:47 <administrator> <act:commodity-scu>100</act:commodity-scu>
08:13:49 <administrator> The name of the File is "acctchrt_chkmu.gnucash-xea"
08:13:51 <administrator> if i change this line could this also have some effect ?
08:16:17 <ccfiel> is it possible to enter a sales in gnucash?
08:18:36 <administrator> I would say yes. In my company i use for selling a prodcut the Invoice wizard
08:19:21 <administrator> After the Customer pay the Invoice i mark the invoice as payed and everything is fine
08:21:35 <ccfiel> ic so you need to create invoice
08:21:36 <ccfiel> first
08:21:37 <ccfiel> ?
08:21:43 *** Demitar has joined #gnucash
08:22:49 <administrator> well i dont know if you have a company. For a company you need a invoice for sure ! For private you can sure use the transaction wizard.
08:23:54 <ccfiel> is there a way that i just create a sales with out invoice. because its just a cash sales.
08:24:00 <ccfiel> so need to have invoice.
08:25:20 *** BlackBsd has joined #GnuCash
08:27:00 <administrator> The Invoice is a bill for the government. If you sales something or buy something you need this bill as a evidence!
08:27:02 <administrator> If you sales something for private and you use gnucash only for private accounting then you can use simple the Transaction window
08:28:02 <administrator> You danot have to create a invoice fro private sales and buys. Do you use gnucash for private or businnes ?
08:29:50 *** cortana has quit IRC
08:32:17 <ccfiel> actually we are using quickbooks. im planning to shift to gnucash.
08:32:34 <ccfiel> there is a module ins quickbooks
08:32:39 <ccfiel> cash sales
08:33:02 <ccfiel> and an invoice for AR
08:33:17 <ccfiel> when i tried gnucash i only found invoice
08:33:21 <ccfiel> no cash sales.
08:34:23 <ccfiel> so how do i enter a cash sales transaction in gnucash?
08:36:38 <administrator> if i sales something in cash as a example a car i do the following things !
08:36:39 <administrator> First i make a customer with all the data.
08:36:41 <administrator> Then i make a Job for this transaction only for remebering things.
08:36:42 <administrator> Then i create a invoice where the customer is selected and after this the job is selected.
08:36:44 <administrator> I make sure also that a Tax entry is maked in the taxtable.
08:36:45 <administrator> After this i put the amount the date and so on int the Invocie Entry formular together with the needed Tax entry
08:37:34 <ccfiel> we are using it for business. :(
08:39:32 *** |gunni| has quit IRC
08:41:59 <administrator> I use gnucash for bussines tooo and i am very happy at the moment.
08:42:01 <administrator> After you filled the needed data in the Invoice formular you book the transaction and everything is fine.
08:42:03 <administrator> In gnucash you dont have at the moment commands like Cashsales or Banksales or something like this.
08:42:04 <administrator> If you mark a invoice as payed you have gnucash to tell in which account the money should go. As an example Bank or Cash account

14:04:46 <xi> if I have a stock X which has a "spinoff" - ie: creates a stock Y while keeping the number of shares of X unchanged, how do I enter that into gnucash?
14:05:04 <xi> i created a new stock account for Y but I don't know what "transfer" account to use
14:05:23 <xi> to enter in the number of shares at $0
14:05:41 <xi> if I leave the transfer account blank, it becomes imbalance-usd
14:06:25 <warlord> Equity:??
14:07:36 <hampton> I always use the account from which the shares were spun off. Doesn't matter as long as you use a value of zero (and zero shares) for the transfer account.
14:08:37 <xi> hmm
14:08:50 <xi> equity: seems like a good option
14:09:04 <xi> but hampton's suggestion is reasonable too :)
14:09:13 <xi> is there a standard accounting practice for this?
14:09:57 <xi> well
14:10:11 <xi> if i use the account from which the shares were spun off.....it will show up as negative shares there
14:10:14 <xi> which isnt right
14:10:29 <xi> how can you enter in 0 shares for that account, and enter in the right number of shares for the new account
14:10:38 <xi> there is only 1 shares column
14:11:19 <warlord> You'll need to edit it from both sides.
14:11:27 <warlord> gotta run.. flight.

18:25:23 <zach> interesting.. just for fun, I changed install.sh to pull down the latest of most everything to build gnucash, including GTK 2.12.12 and a bunch of the gnome 2.18 stuff. Everythign appears to work fine so far, except the tabs the registers and tabs in the prefs window are drawn wrong
18:26:14 <zach> the border appear to be 180 degree from where they should be
18:28:24 *** twunder has joined #gnucash
18:30:00 <zach> s/2.12.12/2.10.12
18:31:40 <zach> for example, tabs in main window have top and side borders, with no bottom border so they appear attached to the register page below them... on my new build, the missing border is on the top of the tab
18:32:16 <zach> and if I change the layout in prefs, the missing border is always on the wrong side

20:49:24 <Hydroxide> can anyone tell me the proper way to record a non-taxable mutual fund distribution? i.e., the mutual fund returns some of my capital, decreasing my cost basis but without counting as income for tax purposes or reducing the number of shares I own. (I think it does drop the price by the same amount as the distribution.)
20:49:59 <Hydroxide> I did what I found in the Gnucash mailing list archives, but it's causing my books not to balance, while when I void those transactions it does balance
20:50:24 <Hydroxide> so something's wrong, and if it is an FAQ the only easily found answer is incorrect
20:51:24 <Hydroxide> (I'm using gnucash 2.0.2; I'll be happy to upgrade to 2.0.5 if something relevant changed between the two versions)
