07:48:29 <Vitor> hello everyone! :)
07:48:51 <Vitor> I opened my gnucash today and it doesn't load some transactions. I lost all transaction from "Dinheiro na Carteira" to "Despesas" after 08/24/06.
07:48:53 <Vitor> I think is a bug in the gnucash data files. There are some kind of repair tool for it?
07:49:05 <Vitor> ow... I am graduated in computer science, so, we can have a "technical speak" :)
07:49:44 *** warlord-afk is now known as warlord
07:50:34 <warlord> Vitor: GnuCash only has a single data file. There are a couple ways for this to happen.. The most usual way is that you opened a backup file instead of your primary datafile.
07:50:47 <warlord> Another possibility is that gnucash crashed and you didn't save..
07:50:58 <warlord> Or you had left gnucash open when you shutdown the computer..
07:51:03 <warlord> Or the disk was full.
07:52:22 <Vitor> hum... i don't made backups :(
07:52:28 <warlord> Vitor: gnucash does.
07:52:38 <Vitor> hum.. where are they?
07:52:43 <Vitor> is the same folder?
07:52:46 <warlord> yes.
07:53:25 <Vitor> there are some .log and .xac files. Is it?
07:53:40 <warlord> Yes, the .log files are, well, logs.. and the .xac files are backups.
07:53:42 <Vitor> Sorry by the poor english. I am brazilian :(
07:53:49 <Vitor> great
07:54:12 <warlord> It's okay. Your English is better than my Portuguese. ;)
07:54:49 <Vitor> :)
08:00:14 <Vitor> Ok, the backups saved my life :)
08:00:26 <Vitor> thank you warlord
08:00:39 <warlord> You're welcome. Just remember to copy the backup file to your "new" data file name..
08:01:23 <warlord> I have to wonder what happened, tho...

14:46:52 <warlord> How are you, cstim ?
14:51:39 *** pimienta has quit IRC
14:54:55 <cstim> very well
14:55:44 <warlord> Wonderful!
15:31:17 <cstim> No state holiday in the U.S. today, I suppose?
15:32:48 <jsled> no.
15:32:59 <cstim> warlord: s/Maia waives/Maia waves/ of course. She's in bed by now.
15:33:28 <warlord> Nope, no state holiday today.
15:33:39 <warlord> And I'm sure Maia waving is cute.
15:53:26 <cstim> On startup of current gnucash SVN, I get
15:53:33 <cstim> CRIT <GLib> g_hash_table_destroy: assertion `hash_table != NULL' failed
15:53:48 *** Ard0nik has quit IRC
15:54:03 <cstim> which might also be due to an incomplete build on my side
15:54:11 <jsled> hmm. I added some g_hash_table_destroy calls recently...
15:54:21 <cstim> jsled: in which area?
15:54:28 <jsled> SXes
15:54:41 <jsled> r15839
15:54:56 <jsled> Lemme make them a bit more defensive.
16:00:49 <warlord> cstim: any idea why someone might be having a problem loading a 1.8.12 datafile into a recent win32 build?
16:00:54 <cstim> warlord: oh, gobject-engine-dev-warlord-what-a-long-branch-name has partially been merged. Great :-)
16:01:20 <jsled> cstim: 15852 has some if (hash_table != NULL) { destroy; }
16:01:21 *** Ard0nik has joined #gnucash
16:02:17 <warlord> LOL. Actually, the full branch has been merged.
16:02:23 <warlord> It's just not a full gobjectification ;)
16:06:16 <cstim> jsled: indeed, in r15852 they're gone.
16:06:18 <cstim> thanks
16:06:36 <jsled> np. I should have been more careful in the first place.
16:14:24 <cstim> oops. Not that particularly large number of likely SoC applications to be accepted for us.
16:14:55 <warlord> Nope, we get four students.
16:15:16 <cstim> Do you know the criteria by which this number has been assigned?
16:15:34 <jsled> How many mentors do we have, again? We figure out who's going to mentor who and indicate as such.
16:16:02 <jsled> s/We figure/We should figure/
16:16:48 <cstim> jsled: Yes. The timeline says: April 10: All mentors must signed up and all student proposals matched with a mentor by 00:00 Pacific Time / 07:00 UTC
16:17:04 <cstim> which means we have to have mentors assigned to the proposals by tonight?
16:17:10 <jsled> Sounds like.
16:18:34 <cstim> warlord: did you do a little review of the top 4-6 applications? You didn't add any comments.
16:19:10 <jsled> Apparently details of the "allocation rationale" was sent to the mentors-private list.
16:19:16 <warlord> I did a quick review. No I did not add any comments.
16:20:04 <cstim> I'm off to bed in ~30 minutes. If I should mentor one of the students, we should discuss this quickly :-)
16:21:06 <cstim> First question is: Are we happy with these four applications as top applications?
16:21:26 <jsled> I am. They are rated at the top. :)
16:21:45 <cstim> My opinion: #1, #2, and #3 for sure.
16:22:06 <cstim> Application #4 is the UI testing, just as #5 and #6.
16:23:05 <cstim> I cannot tell whether #4 or #5 is better (I ranked both the same), but you are free to change your ranking so that they switch places.
16:24:35 <cstim> That's all from me about the application ranking :-)
16:24:54 <warlord> Have people offered to be mentors.
16:25:05 <cstim> warlord: not yet at the web page

16:26:08 <cstim> As I said: *If* I'd mentor one student, I would enjoy this most with the CSV importer task, but OTOH I'd also prefer not to mentor anyone due to my time constraints.
16:26:56 <cstim> Who else would be up for mentoring the CSV importer?
16:27:21 <warlord> Well, I need to have mentors assigned by tomorrow.
16:27:21 <andi5> hi cstim :)
16:27:24 <jsled> I could. Or the QIF import.
16:28:25 <cstim> warlord: assigned by today, isn't it?
16:28:29 <cstim> andi5: hi
16:28:59 <warlord> The email I saw said that they needed to be assigned by tursday morning PDT.
16:29:24 <cstim> warlord: right. So the Europeans need to have signed up by tonight.
16:30:13 <warlord> Right.
16:30:15 <warlord> Ok.
16:30:18 <warlord> Um, wait.. no..
16:30:24 <warlord> You have untill tomorrow.
16:30:35 <warlord> it'll be after your end of business tomorrow.
16:31:11 <jsled> how many mentors do we have?
16:31:28 <warlord> 5
16:31:46 <jsled> but cstim would rather not, so that's 4. And 4 apps. Great!
16:31:54 <warlord> Andi5, cstim, chris, jsled, and me
16:32:33 <jsled> It seems chris should mentor the register rewrite.
16:33:47 <warlord> Ok, so who wants the other parts. Has anyone plugged in "I'm willing to mentor this"?
16:34:02 <jsled> warlord: no, it doesn't seem anyone has.
16:34:14 <jsled> I'm fine doing any of them. andi5? warlord? preferences?
16:35:50 <warlord> I think I understand the QIF import the best. But I'm certainly fine doing any of them. I dont know Python so I dont know how much I can help with the dogtail tests.
16:36:46 <andi5> actually, i am not sure i will be able to mentor anybody.... i have the time, but not the capabilities..... i would rather help with one or two projects....
16:37:27 <cstim> whoever signs up for the CSV import can count on me as a backup mentor.
16:37:41 <cstim> Just decide on somebody. I'm off to bed now.

17:23:50 <warlord> Anyways, sure, go ahead and sign up now.
17:29:13 <andi5> looks like i may have managed not to have to mentor someone (possibly even older and more experienced than me :)) .... thanks jsled!
17:30:07 <warlord> andi5: do you want to mentor ?
17:31:06 <warlord> jsled: between #4 and #5, which do you like?
17:31:39 <andi5> warlord: no, that was not meant to be ironic :)

18:19:53 <jsled> what do you mean?
18:22:09 <warlord> Well, the kvp_frame fix should go in.. But I'm not sure what to do with his const patch...

18:34:31 <warlord> Swig wont complain?
18:35:14 <hampton> don't know. I can try applying it and compiling
18:35:39 <warlord> There's also the small issue that the patches probably need to be split a little more.
18:35:56 <warlord> I'll work on the first one (kvp_frame and gnc_numeric GType)
18:36:20 <hampton> k. I'll take the second.
18:38:28 <warlord> ok
18:48:09 <warlord> I think the kvp_frame patch should get backported.
18:52:20 <hampton> Agreed. The boxed part of the patch doesn't need to be back ported.
18:53:53 <hampton> there are two hunks in the second patch that add begin_edit/commit_edit sets. Should those be pack ported too?
18:55:13 <hampton> sigh.... warning: no previous prototype for 'gnc_budget_begin_edit'
18:55:57 <hampton> how/why do people keep turning off compiler checks? The compiler is your friend.
18:56:33 <warlord> I dont know how/why.
18:56:48 <jsled> hampton: our configure.in "enables" -Wno-unused.
18:57:01 <warlord> but -Wno-unsused != -Wno-undefined
18:57:11 <jsled> True.
18:58:00 <hampton> Can we fix -Wno-unused now? Don't we require a swig version that no longer has the problem that caused -Wno-unused to be added?
